Disk write error sims 4

Hi,

So I’m not very techy but when downloading sims 4, the steam application was verifying the files and every time it says disk write error.
I have googled and followed the steps of so many fixes (download cache clearing, running as administrator, turning off firewall, and a few more)

To note I am downloading onto an external hard dive for the first time as my computer has very minimal storage left however I got a hard dive with more than enough storage and it’s brand new so surely that would be the problem?

If anyone could help me it would be appreciated as I’m so frustrated!

It's possible steam is still trying to save to your (full) internal drive and there isn't enough space. You often need up to double the space a game requires when performing an update as Steam needs to be able to hold the original install, the update files, and a patched copy of the game
