Disk Write Error
I'm attempting to download Space Marine 2 and I keep getting reoccurring Disk Write Errors. I have NEVER had this happen with any other title I own and I am at a complete loss as to what to do. I did all my homework, 200GB free, reset steam and my desktop, running steam as admin, checked my C: drive, no errors, defragged and optimized my drives again just in case too. I am horrible with tech so I really don't know what could be causing this.

Try posting on game forum to get better/more replies.

I'd double check the amount of spcce game requires, and open up more disk space just in case. Or try it on a different disk.

It ended up downloading thankfully, I just wanted some eyes on this and the game forum seemed backed up with other stuff.

I definitely have enough space, like more than double required. What I HAVE just noticed however is that I am now getting Disk Write Errors on other games. I downloaded Warframe just to check, and got 1 error right before it finished downloading, clicked resume and it finished with no issue so...idk if my drive is failing or what. I just scanned it today and it was fine

What I noticed on disk failing is that, Win OS may not detect and flag that it is failing right away, even when you manually run the scan. It often takes more time. On the other hand, linux OS flag it much faster. In fact, it immediately tells you when disk is connected.

So to be sure if disk is failing, is to either check in linux OS or simply use another disk. If you suspect or find out that your disk is in fact failing, you should backup your data as soon as possible. Data is more valuable than cost of replacing the disk.

Please dont make such comment that you need Linux to check disk.

And dont forget there is way more windows user in the world as gamer pc then Linux pc, so ofc we will see way more steam user with disk issue.

Linux is more a ppl server in the past , and yet they start to have more games, its about time they did that buut thats thanks to game devs not linux in itself.

Thats day linux is equal in game titles for all game then thats system is worthy. not before.
if you are a pro gamer and play newest tiles, then someday Linux might take the lead, i have nothing agaient that, we are not there yet as fare as i know.

ps.
and we as user can see OP, figure it out small free disk space is over.

we talking about ½ to 1 TB freee work space if only have a boot/OS today.

200gb free is a laugh today make a fart and its filled asap.
i think you can find steam post with this over the last 5years.

It seems DaRedGobbo is experiencing persistent disk write errors, and while they managed to download Space Marine 2, the issue seems to be recurring with other games. Here are some additional suggestions that could help address the problem:

1. Checking Disk Health: Since you've mentioned performing a scan, consider using tools like CrystalDiskInfo or HD Tune (for Windows) which can provide more detailed health reports of your hard drive or SSD. Look for attributes like “Reallocated Sectors Count” and “Current Pending Sector Count,” which indicate potential drive failures.

2. Run CHKDSK: While you checked for errors, you can run CHKDSK with more thorough parameters. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type `chkdsk C: /f /r`, replacing `C:` with the appropriate drive letter. This can take a while but will look for and attempt to repair file system errors and recover bad sectors.

3. Check Disk Usage: Ensure that your disk isn't running out of space during downloads, even if you currently have enough free space. Sometimes, temporary files can consume space quickly. Consider cleaning out junk files using the built-in Disk Cleanup tool or a third-party tool like CCleaner.

4. Different Install Location: If you have access to another hard drive or SSD, try changing the download location for Steam games. This can help determine if the original drive has developing issues.

5. Update Storage Drivers: Ensure your storage drivers are up to date. You can do this through Device Manager by expanding the “Disk drives” section, right-clicking, and choosing “Update driver.”

6. Run Steam as Administrator: Although you've mentioned you’ve been running Steam as an admin, double-check to ensure it applies to all instances to avoid potential permission-related issues.

7. Disable Antivirus/Firewall Temporarily: Some antivirus or firewall settings can interfere with game downloads and installations. Temporarily disable them to see if it resolves the issue (just remember to turn them back on afterwards).

8. Backup Important Data: If there is any suspicion that the disk might be failing, it's crucial to back up any important data immediately to prevent data loss.

9. Consider SSD: If you are using an HDD, it might be worth considering upgrading to an SSD, which typically offers better performance and reliability.

10. Monitor Windows Event Viewer: Check the Windows Event Viewer for logs that could provide insight into disk errors or related issues. Look specifically under “Windows Logs” > “System.”

It might also be a good idea to document any patterns you observe with the disk write errors, as this information can be helpful if you end up needing to consult with tech support or a professional.

I hope these suggestions help provide clarity and resolution to DaRedGobbo’s disk write errors!
