"Big Picture" mode
I recently accidentally went into "big picture" mode - something I had never seen before. I have to say that this seems to be to be utterly useless, but the biggest problem was that there was no way to get OUT of it. I had to actually bring up a browser to search for the key command that would turn off this mode.

I would appreciate either a way to disable the button in the top-right, OR, a menu option to exit 'big picture' mode. I rather suspect that I'm going to have this happen again two or three years from now and I doubt I'll remember how to get out then so I'll have to search for the method of exiting all over again.

There is a way to exit it just as much as there is a way to enter it.

If you have a gamepad, press the guide key and you'll get a menu. If you don't, press Alt+Enter.

.. or just Escape. Pressing Escape would've brought you the menu, including the option to quit BP. Pressing Escape takes less time, than bringing up a browser. Why making simple things complicated?

Bottom left corner, click on "Steam."

Choose "Power."

Choose "Exit Big Picture Mode."

Yes, you're right. I have to say it's well hidden; I was not expecting it to be under a 'power' menu, and when I looked there, I saw options relating to turning off my PC and missed the exit option.

Thanks for your help.

same problem, only occasionally do I accidentally get into big picture mode, and everytime i have to spend 5-10 minutes figuring out how to exit out of this stupid thing. really would like an option for it to be turned off permanently. I despise it

Here's the option: Run Steam in small mode and do EVERYTHING besides (un)installing and running games from your browser. Bonus: Get the Augmented Steam extension.
