i cant change settings on linux
when i click on an option that brings a list, i cant choose anything from said list, making me unable to change the setting.

Steam -> Settings -> Interface -> Enable context menu focus compatibility mode.

Hadn't noticed that option before (is it new?) and was just about to go thank you for pointing out a solution to this by now very longstanding issue of the Linux client -- until finding out that it doesn't in fact solve anything for me. E.g. "Edit" on one of these own replies still does absolutely nothing from the Linux client (on an Ubuntu 22.04 LTS base system using Xfce at least).

for example, the language settings, im on arch linux with lxqt.
