Steam Group Chat Avatars not working

For a few months now, since September, there has been a problem with Group Avatars not working. I'll break down what happens in as much detail as possible.

Step 1: Create a new group chat. Once you create a new group chat, you'll be able to save it from the settings, which is the chat bubble with the cog in it. Once you save it, you'll be able to do/use a multitude of things. Roles and permissions, text channels, a name and tagline, and supposedly an avatar. But you already know how that went, if I'm here complaining about it haha.

Step 2: Attempting to add an avatar. After you've saved the chat by giving it a name, the settings will change and allow you to add an icon for the avatar. It's the same as changing your profile picture, pretty much. Press "Add Icon" and select a file. And bada-bing bada-boom you got a Steam Group Avatar... is what you'd expect.

Step 3: Cry. A lot. What's this? An error popped up? It says "Error: A server error occurred"? Why, that's funny. Let's just try again and-- *windows pop-up noise*-- it's done it again. Well, maybe it's the image? *windows pop-up noise*. Nope. That's not it either. Bummer, I spent an hour creating this really cool piece of art that fits juuust perfectly for the Steam Chat, and now it's gone to waste.

Unfortunately, this is where I'm stumped. There's nothing specific given to the error that I can use to trace down what the problem is, and that's a big flaw. If there is any type of fix, please do tell. This has been bothering me for forever, ever since it's been a problem.

It's been broken since mid-September. I was last able to successfully change the icon on September 14, while this post ( https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/3826311001000758153/#c5086242673964305671 ) indicates it had stopped working by the 18th. Doesn't work even for images that have worked previously.

If I'm the 8th person to report it, then color me surprised to see no one has done any investigating, or at least recorded any investigations. I wonder if it would make a nice Christmas Present from Steam to have this issue fixed.

Well, it's now almost middle of 2022 and this problem is still ongoing, I suppose Steam has no interest in resolving this issue.
It'd be nice to be proven wrong and finding that Group Chat Avatars can be added agaibn, but I shan't be holding my breath...

salty grain, this is not working for me as well, I am not getting anything about a sever error, it is just NOT adding the icon, image is a 500x502 pixel JPG, I have tried PNG as well.

I have tried both PNG and JPG , sometimes I get the server error message, other times nothing happens at all.
Not that I expect Steam to do anything about this: it's been going for quite some time and it is obviously not a priority bug for them to sort out. I wonder if they are even aware that this exists and are just choosing to ignore it or if they actually are truly oblivious of the problem.

Looks like they are working again! I just tried putting in a new chat avatar on one of the group chats I am in, and it worked just fine, so I am uploading to all the ones I have without an image!
