Why won't games auto update right away? Sometimes they are set to update a week in the future!
I have never had a game update automatically by itself. I load Steam and look at my downloads and it may have several updates for games, but none of them will start. They will have odd times and dates, sometimes a week away! I can select to download, and they work fine, but I want them to automatically download.

I have my settings configured to auto update and have no time frame specified. What can I do to have downloads start right away and not be delayed?

the world has change thats why, after covid-19 , all is home and use network, this has effect all isp and steam, this should have done this from first day, but ppl are use to be in controll,

but then you have 1000+ games and new pc maybe, some start to DL all again, and then you look at it that way, games install and update you dont play dont here and now can be schedule over time, and thats my point should have always been this way.

ps.
keep in mind, so many user dont see this in global view, and only own view, no company in the world can feed all if they request all on same time.

you can also call drowned in his own success, and you can also say neglicted all the warning about it. its simple matter of view point.

do read pinned down covid-19 issue.

All the Steam games that I have set to High Priority update immediately. They are never queued for a week later like the games that I don't have set to High Priority.

Right click on the game's name in the list in your Steam library, select properties, select UPDATES, click under AUTOMATIC UPDATES and change it to High Priority.

High Priority - Always auto-update this game before others
This game and its updates will be automatically acquired as soon as they are available. Steam will prioritize this game over other downloads.

The longer queue times for games that haven't been played recently started at the end of last March:

Managing Steam Bandwidth During COVID-19 Pandemic

We know a lot of you (like us here at Valve) are stuck at home right now trying to work or attend school remotely. Or maybe you're just playing a bunch of great games on Steam. Whatever the case may be, we know that with so many people at home trying to get things done at the same time, it can put a stress on your home’s internet bandwidth.

With that in mind, we thought it was a good time to remind everyone of some of the features the Steam client offers relating to downloads, so that you can manage your home bandwidth and help everyone in your house handle this unique situation we all find ourselves in.

Changes to Auto-Updating to Spread Out Peak Load

For games that haven’t been played recently, Steam has already been scheduling updates for the next off-peak local time period. Beginning this week, we are now spreading these updates out over several more days. Only games played within the last 3 days will be updated immediately. As always, the game will begin updating immediately if you request to play it, and you can always initiate an update (or pause it indefinitely) through the Download Manager. We’re also looking into additional solutions to help on our side....

I have games set to auto update, but I never noticed the high priority setting. Thanks for the info.

But, I own over 1000 games, there has to be a way to set them all to high priority in one shot, no?

Nope. If it was that easy, too many people would set their entire library to high priority and set the servers on fire. :betsy:

Set the ones you're actually playing to high priority (speaking as someone with over a kilogame myself).

Yeah, I suppose. Plus it's not like I have all my games installed, either. I'll just set the ones I am playing and some of my installed favorites.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Use an idling app daily to idle the most played games you want updated sooner.

This is a user forum contact support if you have any issue.

No ticket then most IT company dont have a issue. this is how things works today.

ps.
you do know what you been seen as a mcfly boy that dont know past issue, and why it was chenge and i doubt steam will change it back.

so technicaly you dont know jack and crap, its about time someone tell you this.
you are not in controll over things and how its done now.
only steam can undo or make it as they see fit, has actual nothing to do with me.
