Crashing with a Roccat Kave XTD headset when using microphone.
I have a new Roccat Kave XTD headset that works fine everywhere else. However, whenever I try to use the microphone in any way related to steam, the steam client crashes. This will occur if I go into options and click "test microphone" or even just going anywhere in a game where it would pick up sound from my microphone. It'll always cause Steam to lock up and stop responding.
Once I close it, I get errors about the Bootstrapper.
-EDIT-
All fixes so far have not worked. Also, in addition to steam crashing whenever the microphone is attempted to be used. It also causes the microphone to stop being detected even after steam is finished crashing. It won't pick up my voice until I reload the USB device. Again, this ONLY happens if Steam is involved. If I have the GOG version of a game, and the Steam version, it is only the STeam version that suffers this issue.

The Roccat Kave XTD is a USB device, have you got the latest version of the drivers installed (v1.19 at the time of writing)?

They can be downloaded here: http://www.roccat.org/Support/Gaming-Sound/ROCCAT-Kave-XTD/

What OS are you running?

Yes, I have the newest versions. I am using 64 bit Windows 7 home premium.

just an idea, have you tried enabling stero mix in recording properties? a little bit of googling suggested that as a possible (and somewhat random) fix.

Why are computers so weird? It is now fixed.

No idea (but without it i'd be out of a job!).
Good to know it's fixed, was it the stero mix that fixed it in the end? (so that others with the same issue will know what to try).

Correct. I had it disabled to avoid conflicting and sometimes being set as my default recording source. For some reason, this caused Steam to explode.

It didn't actually fix it. It only worked once and went back to crashing immediately afterward. So still no dice. Steam still crashes any time it tries to detect any kind of microphone input. Either via test or in-game.
