However, if you do not have flash player or Java installed, going to shady sites will not result in getting a virus. The problem is flash player has too many holes and quite easy to exploit.
It's only been a few days, this problem started with the two patch ago (since the last patch was quickly put out to fix a bigger issue that same patch caused)
I thought I remembered seeing the posts first start appear right after the end of the Sumer Sale, beginning of this month.
Never had this problem untill the last two or three updates from steam.
Personally, I do not have flash installed (or Java). And videos stopped working 2 patches ago. But they work in "Big Picture" mode just fine. Which makes it a steam problem, not a user problem.
Don't have flash installed. Able to view videos just fine up until 2 patches ago. However, can view video in Big Picture mode, just not in normal mode.

Other topics have had users report that they couldn't get the quick browser install of "other versions" to work and they had to go to Flash and get a full version download and install to get it to work.
The fact that videos play in "Big Picture" just fine, makes this a steam "bug" and it will get fix.
P.S. You can see the pictures just fine as long as your "auto play videos" is unchecked and you do not click on a video.
