Bought the same game twice...
Hey Guys,

I bought the same game twice. I meant to buy it for a friend who just lost his job, we were drowning his sorrows in a few drinks and I accidentally got it for myself.

Thing is, I already own the game. Steam wont refund me because I've "installed the game". Well of course, I already had the game, so it was already installed.

I've had a word with our trading standards department and they are taking up the case legally, but it could take weeks to get it resolved that way.

Is there anything else I can do, or just sit on it and wait for trading standards to do their thing?

Just on a side: Customer support were very unhelpful, even though I raised a ticket literally 15 seconds after I realised what I'd done.

Umm when you buy an extra copy of something you already own it goes in to your inventory to be traded at a later time... Should look there.

LOL at the trading standards, What about your own standards?

Keep contacting steam support as they will be the only ones able to assist you.

If you already own the game Steam usually will not allow you to purchase it again for yourself. You'd have to buy it as a gift. Did you buy a bundle with the game instead?

Nope, its not there. They said that if you get it for yourself, even if you already have it, you will not get a giftable copy.

I had the game and all the DLC.
I bought the game again in a bundle that had all the DLC. The two sets of items are basically identical.

The only difference is I got the game, then added all the DLC over time. Where as the bundle comes with it all in one blast. But it's all the same stuff. I think thats why it allowed the purchase possibly.

This is what i get with any owned item dlc or anything else added to the cart too.

You can buy GOTY versions if you already own the base game and bought DLC individually.

Which game is it, if I may ask?

I *think* that if you repurchase a copy of the game and put it in your inventory first, then ask Support to refund the copy from your library, you should get your money back - as Steam Wallet though.

Best part is that it wasn't even on sale, I paid full price too. Just trying to help a brother out basically.

Yeah also if you get bundles like that it tells you that if you purchase it for yourself you will lose all the items you already own in the bundle. I hate to say it TC but it warned you at checkout you just never noticed. It's your own fault, not Steams. Also what do you mean your trading standards department? Are you trying to say the business you work for doesn't mind one of its divisions working on saving you $30 you lost because of your inability to read/pay attention to what you were doing? If you were my employee and I found out about that you'd be gone!

Doesn't matter that I made a mistake, I paid for something I did not get. Not like I can log into my account twice and use my two copies. If you buy two of something, you should have two. Not trying to launch a rocket into space here, just wanting a bit of fairness.
