Activating an Arma 2 OA non Steam Version on Steam
Since the most recent Arma 2 update (1.63) all of the Arma 2 servers are now powered through Steam. However, I have a non-steam version of Arma 2 OA. I decided that it was time to activate it. I went through all the steps to activate it. It accepted my CD key and everything worked fine until the install. I saw that it was trying to download the whole 6GB game again. Now, I have a slow download speed and I don't feel like downloading all that data when it's already on my computer. Is there any way I can move my Arma 2 and Arma 2 OA files into my steam folder so they're accepted by steam to where I don't have to redownload?

Of course.

Start the download/installation via Steam—then pause it. After that, copy and paste all the Arma 2 files that you already had into that location.

I have tried that but it just keeps downloading the files like my pasted files don't even exist...
Everything (6GB)? This must mean that the files are different.

I'm afraid you can't get out of this one.
There is another thing that you could try.

After pasting all those files in the correct folder, go to your library and right-click on Arma 2>Properties>Local files>Verify integrity of game cache.
