Added steam funds, money was removed from card but not added to steam wallet.

So earlier today I got a $25 prepaid Masterccard debit card. I was told I could use it anywhere I could use a normal card, so I figured I'd use it for steam. I registered the card, and went to add $20 into my steam wallet, as 2 $10 payments. The first went fine, so I bought a few things. Then steam asked me to verify the new card, by checking the cards transactions and entering the 2 steam had automatically made, and told me would not actually be charged. Well, they were charged, but I didn't notice cause the page had not updated yet. So I went to add the second $10, and was told my card had been declined. I was confused at first, so I waited a bit to just see if it was just a glitch or something, but when I came back to try again, I noticed the $10 had been charged off my card, but hadn't been added to my wallet, and steam was still saying my card has been declined.

I've got no idea if this is a problem on Steams side or Mastercards, but I'd thought I'd post it here and hope for the best, as I don't really feel like losing $15 bucks to a dumb glitch. Any help would be welcomed, I'll contact support eventually, I just wanted to make sure this wasn't a common problem first.

I do not suggest using pre-paid debit cards. In addition to being a ripoff they also have trouble on some internet sites like Steam. Due to the high amount of attempted credit card fraud on Steam, they take a couple extra measures to verify the billing name and info that you submit is the same that the card issuer has on file. Since prepaid cards don't have that info by default purchases can often fail. Most card companies will allow you to contact the number on the back of the card for you to attach your billing info to the card. That process may take a couple of business days depending on the company.

Go to https://store.steampowered.com/account/ and see what Steam says. If Steam does not say the transaction was successful, then the money will be returned to your card. It may take a few days as it is up to the bank .

Thanks for the help, It seems they did fail through steam, so I'll wait a few days and hope it gets added. If not guess I'll go complain to Master card.

Hey, I have the same problem and dated July 4 too. I've been using my visa debit card for adding funds in my wallet many times already but this time it didn't worked. My debit card was deducted by $99 but still not in my wallet. Already made a ticket too. Added you in steam, tell me when you have the money again and I will tell mine. My bank said if steam didn't accept it in a week I guess they will return the money to our card.

If the purchase was denied by Steam (you can find out in your account history), then the funds are not with Steam but are being held by the bank/creditor that issued the card. Each company has their own policy. My credit card company guarantees that the funds will return/be credited back to your account within 48 hours of the transaction being declined/denied or they give me a credit. Debit and pre-paid card companies usually take longer because they are considered less profitable or already having the money so they don't really have good customer support or customer friendly policies.

Hello, my mother and I just added 50$, yes 50 DOLLARS!!! It was counted as a payment on her card, but it is not on my account. Yes, everything was correct (Ip, cc number, etc.) My mother uses a visa credit card. I WANT MY MONEY GABE!!!!!! Someone please help me!!!

Have a $100 prepaid MasterCard. Added $50 So I could verify funds and buy something now, then add the other 50 and wait out the 5 days to use market. My prepaid card was actually charged on the verification funds. It took off $3.31 off of my card so I cant get the other $50 onto my account.

That's how the verification system works. Two small temporary charges on your card are made. You then have 3 tries to input the amounts charged. Once you successfully verify the funds,fail to verify them, or wait the 5 days, steam will release the charges. Your payment provider will then remove them from your account. It can take up to a week usually depending on your payment provider's policies (usually prepaid ones have the worst customer terms) and your country's banking laws.
