Possible infectious steam thing?
I am absolutely clueless where to put this, so I'm putting it here: BitDefender is currently detecting that the gameoverlayui.exe or whatever it's called is accessing an "infected web resource" that, from the looks of the link, looks like a scam ad, however the URL is so large infact that it is larger than the entire textbox, and that's a large textbox, it goes offscreen. I believe that gameoverlayui.exe is, infact, the steam overlay, correct? I don't have memory of clicking any ads at all using the steam overlay. Does anyone have any idea what this is and is anyone else getting this?

Probably a false positive from Bitdefender. Had an issue where it detected interstellar marines .exe as a trojan.

Dumped Bitdefender free and went back to MSE.
A .exe is nothing at all like a web resource. Have you paid attention to what I said? I'm not saying it's detecting a .exe, I'm saying that it's saying that the steam overlay is accessing an infected web resource.

Try updating your anti-virus, it may be out-of-date. Or even better, switch to Avast.

BitDefender shouldn't be reporting anything on gameoverlayui.exe.

Edit:
Never mind, you may try to delete GameOverlayUI.exe and let Steam redownload it.

That's why it's strange, and this has never happened before, I've used steam with bitdefender for a very long time and it has never detected this before. Why is it today that bitdefender is suddenly getting angry at steam? It has already almost entirely broken OMSI II, and now it's detecting stuff on the steam overlay UI...
false positive scans can happen after an antivirus component is updated (program + virus definition + heurestics ).

if you already made an account in the support forum of favorite antivirus, you can upload the supicious *.exe thing there and let their experts figure it out if it's a false positive or if your file is in fact infected.

if you are sure that the suspicious file is clean by scanning it with updated bitdefender and other online scanners, then you can add the file as an exception (safe file list)

IT IS NOT A FILE. IT IS A WEB RESOURCE. IT IS NOT ON MY COMPUTER. Do you understand now?

GameOverlayUI.exe shouldn't be accessing any ads. Where is the file located on your computer and what is the size of the file?

Of GameOverlayUI.exe? I would need to know where it actually is.

since you already discounted the possibility that your 'gameoverlayui.exe' is not infected by the 'web resource' it tried to communicate to, what is your next move?

Wait, I confused myself, nevermind about what I said just then.

Found it. It's in the C:\program files (x86)\steam area and it is 94KB in size.

I actually kind of have my hands full right now because BitDefender basically stabbed OMSI II and I'm trying to correct it while running a full system scan and talking on the forums, so I can't really do that right now.

One sentence to their support email or something.
Better than wasting time posting about it somewhere else

Actually, iirc BitDefender requires you to put the file into a password-locked .rar with a very specific password, and then send it to them via email and include very specific text and then they have to analyse the file. It's alot more than "just one sentence".

Its not a file, as you said anyway.

If its a file upload it to virustotal and give them the link.
