"Steam Library Folders" button missing
I just installed the client on a new PC. When going through the settings I wanted to create a new game library folder before starting to download games from my library. According to guides online, this is done using a button under Download settings, at the top. The top item on my install is my geo location. I could not locate the "Steam Library Folders" button anywhere. Under the storage settings, I can only change the drive. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

What happens if you just try to install a game? That should ask you about a location. I think, it's been a while.

Also, how old and/or official ar these guides you found?

I haven't yet tried to install a game but I did search on the most recent guides (like 20 October 2024 was the most recent I found) because I suspected the client might have been changed. Anyway, reinstalling at the moment so I'll try the game download then.

OK, reinstalled, no change.

I tried installing a game, it pushes me to the default install location, with the option via the settings wheel icon to land in the storage setting. Where I can change drives or rename the library (which is actually the disk name). So no, I can't create a new steam library folder, it even refuses to go to folder level.

Edit: when I downloaded a game and then went to storage, selecting a game allows me to uninstall it but the "move" button remains greyed out.

I again re-installed the Steam client, this time in the default C drive location. Same issues. Same issues as before. And when you go to storage settings, I can only add my D drive in it's entirety and the client calls this 'Add a new Steam library folder'. WTF?? I organize my games in different libraries, and I can hardly get separate drives for each of them. And how is an entire drive a 'folder' according to Valve?

Edit: what genius! When you press the 'add drive' button in the drop down list in storage settings, you're supposed to select a folder. Not a drive, a folder. And it does not even work. So not only do these CS degree chaps at Valve don't seem to know the difference between a drive and a folder, they can't seem to make up their mind how to get either working. Yes I'm cranky now, I just wasted several hours on this with a splitting headache, hoping to get this PC done. This is what you get with monopolies. Thank gods I made a backup before I started messing with Steam and that I had the foresight to buy most of my games at GoG. Valve, fix this dammit and send me some migraine pills.

Same here. There is no "Steam Library Folders" button in downloads. It is super annoying!
I can't connect my old Steam folder which contains the games with the new Steam client as this client is useless, but we have moving emojies...
The Storage/Browse folder just open a window but not in the client to link it or create on, just open a normal folder window as I would open one...

The solution:
You must not choose the drvie (which contains your games) because it will create a new SteamLibrary folder in the drive's root and the "Browse folder" is still useless BUT
Of course you must select the "Add drive" and then you can brows the folder what you shoudl have browsed with the "Browse folder" button lol

Delete the empty library that Steam added. Then go to Settings -> Storage and click on the box at the top and select "Add Drive." In the window that appears, click the box at the top and then select "Let me choose another location." Then click the "Add" button at the bottom. This should bring up a File Explorer window. Navigate to the Steam Library Folder and click "Select Folder."
