Steam asks for sign in only when gifting games.

Everything else works fine, buying games for myself, using the store, using the client etc.
But it only asks for me to sign in when i try to gift a game....even though im already signed in.

Im assuming the sale is doing something to the servers. I can still buy stuff fine, only gifting is borked.

Stuff tends to get weird during tuesday maintenance.

This is still happening to me anybody find a fix or work around? Because after I sign back in nothing works, my entire wishlist is gone/won’t load, and so is my friends list

i signed out and back in and now its fixed. I think its server sided so you might have to contact steam support.

Yeah, still happening to me when I gifted someone a game last night! Hearing that other people are also having this issue makes me feel a lot better.

Had to do some back and forth with Steam Support about this, and it boils down to it just being a new security feature. They didn't tell me why some people are affected by it and others are not, but they assured me everything is fine and this is normal. I honestly hate this, but it might just have to be something we get used to.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having this problem I was trying to gift something from my phone and no matter how many times I signed in Even though I already was. It kept making me redoing it and I was getting nowhere really frustrating...

Same. I was wanting to gift a game to someone while not at my PC and I couldn't do it through mobile.

I've also just had this, when gifting a game to a friend. Doesn't ask for sign in anywhere else, and added 'Web Browser - Chrome on Windows' as an authorised device. Same location as my PC client, but still strange. Never done this before.

^ This. It's apparently a security thing. Not sure why it only applies to gifting and not just buying in general but it is what it is.

On another note, it's cool that all of us were attempting to gift things for other folks. That's mighty generous of y'all. Cheers!

Am a little annoyed that this is still going on. I waited several weeks and tried to gift again recently, and this is still going on. And then a friend was able to gift me no issue without jumping through this extra hoop.

I can understand -why- they would put this security check in, but the fact it's applying to some accounts and not others is the baffling thing.

I'm also getting this? It's a little strange, for me also because it's asking me to go to my mobile authenticator to sign in, and when I open my mobile authenticator, IT'S telling me to sign in with my mobile authenticator??? (I got a new phone, recently; maybe I haven't signed into Steam on it, yet?)
Basically, I can't buy this gift
