Games won't Install directX

For anyone who issn't interested in the way i found Out: Check If Windows Media Feature Pack is Installed. Its an requirement for stuff Like Spotify or (weirdly) installing DirectX.

How i found Out:
I Had some issues that some of my Games wouldn't Install directX on (first) Startup (after i reinstalled Windows 11). I found Out that the 2 Games that wouldn't Work were both unreal engine 5. I searched but didn't found anything.
I recently installed my Computer with a fresh Version of Windows 11 Pro N. After the Installation i installed Most of my stuff without Problems but Had some weird issues. My Headphones (Corsair HS80) couldn't say that my mic is muted (or any other stuff) etc.
Today i installed Spotify. It wouldn't start and throw an Error. After search for Like 10 Seconds i found an Community thread that sayed i need to Install the Windows Media Feature Pack. After the Installation Spotify worked and magicly my Headphones also. I thought: What are the ods that my Games works again?
There were good.
I contacted the Steam Support this morning because auf that Problem and now wrote that my issue is fixed but explained that an Error Message would be helpful. I hope they Put one in.

How come you do not know this, most will say hey MS win11'N' version, what does that mean.

IMO. steam technicaly don't even have to reply or explan you anything, but i bet there do.

And be happy i and other have the audacity to to tell it diffrently.

This can be seen as not a MS issue or steam or game devs or other app that need thirdpart app to work.


Do not delete your post so other steam user don't make same mistake, you will still help other steam user with same issue, if they don't know this.

In the past the N version of windows didn't have so much bloadware (that changed, most of it also comes in the N version). Most of the default stuff that windows installs is just crap that I don't need. But a message on Steam installation would be great. Most of the people who have the knowledge to understand the difference and install the N Version of Windows understand when steam says you should install the Windows Media Feature Pack. Most of the casual players will have prebuilds and don't reinstall windows or use the home version.

And this is why i and maybe other see it diffrently, and its user themself that need to fix it, there was many Thirdpart app from the past taht now is in the Browser, so you see its not that simple, if MS add or change N version to more or less with it.

iIm sure you can read PDF file, point is that was a thirdpart app in the past.
im not after you here its the MS version N and what it could be a issue with alot of app also not gaming app. some errotr code then you google them point at VC++ issue with other MS product,
but we dont seem them complain here then this is a gaming platform, but we are past games here and this is why we debat N version, and as i daid steam might want to close this post because as i said technical not a steam issue that user have a N version thats get issue with Thirdpart app issue. ( steam dont delete post but they could lock it then they get enough of this thirdpart app issue.

Tthis is why i said toy you dont delete post, pretty sure other N version user will be happy to know if they dont think it can cause game issue or app with sounds and chat.

I could be rude and say wrong OS for gamer's choise.
pretty sure you are not the only users later that need to know own OS issuee with a N version, and who know what problem down the road this can do. if N version wont install thirpart app at all because security already has thirpart access issue that need a security exceptions, atm not the issue but could be.

all this is part of Thirdpart app and acces of data, its same security issue with it. also why N version was made.

and what steam will reply or do i don't know. then N version technicaly should not use it , it's a user choise its here its get a greyzone and steam could say not a steam issue have a nice day, something like that. ( and game devs can say same thingy ) just to make it clear.


its here N veriosn can be seen as not a OS for games.

Any helper here can tell you, so many games use thirdpart app doing installation. and who know what MS do with Upgrade later and its security about them, dont forget MS might have upgrade to standard version, could be best solution if thirdpart app dont play ball later in the future here.
