After updating Windows 11 Civ V will not work

I just updated to Windows 11, version 24H2 and now Civ V will not start. Any ideas?

Roll back the Windows update.

Thanks for the Suggestion. I tried it but it didn't solve the problem. When I try to launch the game it says Launching Updating Executable. It stays that way for a minute or two then it shuts down. Any more ideas?

Verify the integrity of the game files.

I have exactly the same problem: it fails during application update. I just installed Civ5 fresh on a up-to-date Windows 11 and it is not launching. I checked the integrity of the game files a dozen times now. After each launch test the executable seems to be corrupted. I suspect it is this new launcher removal patch from 2K that fails patching the executable without an error log. And afterwards the executable is broken. Please go ahead and fix this!

Contact Game support, we are steam user here, steam is not going to fix your game devs issue then its 2k i think that has game support.

Just FYI: 2K support just answered today, that they are going to pass this issue on to their development team. So, hopefully they will fix it soon.

Just attempted to get Civ 5 running after a long time and ran into this issue, Unfortunately it looks like they still have not fixed the issue. (1/5/25)

2K problem they have support. ( you only have validate game intergrity of filers ) rest is a 2K issue only.

Write here is pointless, do aspect someday steam moderator, will not accept things they can't do anything about, why even allow you comments on things they can't fix.

You have been told who has support, steam has every right to shutdown any post with user that wake old necro post just wait to steam moderator judge then this is old and outdated.

I and other here dont work for steam, or 2K, we tried to help, and confirm if we have the game there is a problem, but dont think helpers here will install a game just to test or help you.

We are steam users here in this steam users forum, this is not support.

learn to read steam rules.
Technicaly we are not allowed to fiddle with steam files or 2K files and then broadcast them,
mods is the only legal to use if game devs allow it, rest can be seen as now allowed or suggest, we can only install and test, if you did not know this the files is not yours, you have a play license only. ( so there is not way we can fix most issue then its in the .exe ( executable files, its so rare its a scripts issure only and we can edit it. )

Then you understand this, then you now understand the take your issue to game support and its that way ---->

I installed Civ on a windows 11 machine. Other than it taking awhile to install all the prerequisites it loads fine

You likely just need to manually reinstall all the prerequisites and reboot
