I am not sure if that functions for Dark Souls 2.
Sometimes it's not as easy as making a backup. I haven't tested it properly for Dark Souls 2. You may need to do more things than just copying your save file, depending on the game title.
You should probably ask it on their forum, (where nobody reads it or ever responds.)
It's either here:

or here:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/335300/discussions/
In either case, I don't believe anyone reads it. But still, you can ask it there.
(Somewhere on the right side.)
You can figure it out, if you put effort into it, I think.
If it doesn't support it, it doesn't show.
It tells you in your library, click on a game, and next to the play button there's a row of information, if it says "Steam cloud - up to date" then that game supports Steam cloud.
Back in the old UI, there used to be a little cloud icon next to games that supported cloud saves but Valve removed it.
If the game has their savegames stored in the cloud, there is an extra line of "savegames are stored in the steam cloud" or something along these lines.
If that doesn't exist, it has no cloud saves.
It shows "Steam Cloud" on the right side:
That's where it would normally be, if a game title supports it.

I'm not sure about that, unless game devs did change this, its also a single player game
most game devs will not save local if this was online.

This will not help OP, but clearly point at he will make backup of files now.
It could be considered cheating and whatnot. Cheating would be uncool. Players are probably better off not doing that.
make sure you dont fiddle with it if MP game. if single player only go ahead make all them backup as you see fit.
