Disk write error
In the past month or so I have been having instances of games trying to update and failing with the "disk write error" coming up on the downloads page.

It's been a number of different games with this error so I initially though perhaps the SSD was shot and needed replacing.
However when I've looked at the install locations for the games in question they are all on different drives.
Some are on SATA SSD's and others are on M.2 drives (I have 2x M.2 drives 1x HDD and 3x SATA SSD's)

In addition to this when I tried again moments ago I got a no internet connection error despite everything working as intended.

So far I've:
verified the files
restarted steam
restarted PC
checked firewall and antivirus are allowing updates to steam and games
uninstall and re-install games

Anybody have any idea what is happening here?

No all the drives have additional space left (100's of GB free on each)

The only work around I have found so far is to delete the game and re-install it but then another update can trigger the issue again.
Not too bad if you have decent internet speeds but I feel bad for those who have this issue and spend hours re-installing games.

I think some of the updates being pushed out for games aren't working as intended for all users as it's only occurring to a small percentage of my updates (I have a lot of games installed so It feels like its often but 5 fails out of 650+ games isn't too bad)

na ive had this now for a week , its on all 6 of my drives , there is no way they are all faulty. its obviously a steam or windows issue...

i fixed it last week by clearing download cache , now its back and that isn't fixing it , cant download anything , cant update anything , can play all games installed flawlessly until a update comes along and that disables me from playing the game. all drives are tip top with no problems. this is a issue on there or Microsofts end. its really bad though... cant do anything and haven't been able to now for over 3 days.

this issue spams these 0kb files all over the place when trying to install a game , .temp_write_ files all over

♥♥♥♥ bro, that sucks. I managed to fix mine by clearing cache and re-downloading the effected games as a fresh install but it's for sure a problem on steams/microsofts end then.

Have you had a windows 11 update recently? I know some of the latest updates for that have been causing issues particularly with games.

(I'll leave this thread unresolved for now and hopefully some god tier IT wizard can solve this for you)
