Steam API key?
i know what it is. i tried to generate it but it said have some games..... i have i think around 300. so i'm confused. is there a way to generate it from steam app? clicking generate redirects me to browser and url in steam app can't be modified. (yes that is a smart security feature... but that doesn't help me)

purpose is. found an all in 1 launcher called playnite. trying to organize all games from... epic, gog, steam, ea, ubisoft, microsoft, battlenet. all in 1 launcher.

"It said I have some games", what did the message say EXACTLY?

Also, doesn't playnite have any FAQ?
Access Denied

You will be granted access to Steam Web API keys when you have games in your Steam account.

Visit Steam Support for more information

... even tho i've signed into my own account. sorry for late response. i thought steam would refresh automatically. first time using forums.
just checked troubleshooting playnite. redirects to same link....

i middle mouse clicked to open browser in app. since that you cam modify url.

Register Steam Web API Key
Something is wrong
Your account does not meet the requirements for a developer API key. Your account requires Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator.

.... i'm going to double check that... i thought i already had that on...
Late? Haha, no. A lot of people reply the next day, or months later (no joke).

Anyway, your games are clearly not set to private. Hm.

Do you have a phone linked to your account?

NVM i'm not touching that. i thought it had something to do with game streaming from pc to pc. (steam version of nvidia shield.)

... i'm about to just skip api key... something in the troubleshooting did say no games imported... make game details public... which i did like 2-3 months ago... soooo i'm confused. i'm about to just skip it.

I guess if anyone has a solution to this problem you're more than welcome to comment and i'll input the info after initial setup. we can go from there.

Sorry for multiple comments.. next time i'll just "EDIT:" also do you need to quote someone to reply? i figured you can just comment. again sorry this is my first time using forums. even signing into community. which i thought would be automatically done...

...... IDK i do have 2fa via email

Edit: this format isn't very minimal... i'm going to condense it for simplicity sake. ... i'll eventually learn to do quote separation.

??? abd... you mean adb? the usb debug tool on android?
No, he means "and", which is kinda funny in connection with him telling you to read abd understand.

O... i just figured "mobile authenticator" just meant some form of authentication. since i have email. i thought that would be enough. ugh. i don't wanna install steam on my phone. i've done fine for 13yrs without doing so... also why does it need access to my phone to organize a library on my computer when it just needs authentication which email is perfectly adequate???

WELP at least i know the answer. to get API key you must install steam on your phone. to get an api key meant for your computer..... email isn't sufficient enough as an authentication method...

SOLUTION^^^ yea... community forums had scarce information with api key. hence documentation.

thank you to all who helped. :-)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-factor_authentication

Short version: Your account is more secure if an attacker needs more "keys" to get in. Which in the case of your phone is physically apart from your PC. Email isn't.
