Game I'm trying to download says it is 0 Bytes
I'm trying to download a game that should be 40GB, but when I click download it says it is 0 Bytes. If I try to play the game, it says it is missing the .exe, and when I run a file integrity check, it claims a number of files are accounted for, but when I check the folder in the steam library that was created for it, it contains no such files.

I would have commented under an other post which had a similar problem, but it got locked because it was "old" :summerfish2023: (it was made earlier this year), so if this goes unanswered for a long time, please do not lock this, I welcome deadposting :csgoa:

Looked a little deeper and found this thread, https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/4147320315760761247/ and even though I did everything that was already listed in it before, I tried again and it worked, though I'm downloading a different game than the one in that thread.

Edit: nevermind, it lied to me when it claimed to be downloading files, the folder is empty and this is still an issue

It might just be a matter of serious (software or hardware induced) filesystem damage -- you'd run a filesystem check (CHKDSK) on the filesystem with your Steam library on it -- but if not, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to reinstall Steam, in the "manual" way, i.e., by deleting most of it:

Just commented in another thread where the issue might be security software interfering with things... and I suppose that's in fact also a bit of a possibility if something "quarantines" files as they are coming in. Seems far-fetched though if folders are actually fully empty. My money would be on filesystem damage...

It's just this one game, though, since I can install any other game just fine, even ones I've never installed before, and it also apparently isn't 40GB, it just has a recommendation of having 40GB free storage. SteamDB says it's less than a gigabyte, so I don't think it could be some kind of problem with Steam, rather, a glitch on the dev's part.

Did you ever fix this issue? I'm having this exact problem with Faerie Solitaire Remastered. It downloads instantaneously, and when I try to run it, it says there's no executable. When I go to verify the files, or when I uninstall and reinstall, it says that the file size is 0kb.

folder permissions? I had win10 and 11 pro make the files stem read only and had this problem years ago and never fixed. I assumed this is microsoft security

The problem fixed itself after the game I was trying to install got an update, so I don't know how to fix it other than to just wait for an update
