Nvidia graphics driver vulnerability?
So just saw this on instagram, didn't take it seriously but still bothered to check and found legit articles about it, the situation seems pretty serious to be honest. I'll be real, I haven't updated my driver in about a year, haven't bought any new games here since I mainly play on ps5 now so I guess it really didn't matter until now that I'm possibly at risk here, I only play some of my old games here time to time. What do you guys think about this? Should I be worried or am I already tapped?

I don't touch these drivers unless I absolutely have to, DDU and then clean manual install for proper results and all that it's a messy process in my opinion. I'd like to hear what do you guys think before I do anything.

Just get the new driver, install it, and done.
There is nothing complicated with that. Doesnt even need pc restart anymore
Also no need for fresh install. Just update.

You made it complicated for yourself.
the vulnerability only been reported since 2 days so there is very little chance you been affected yet , just update the drivers.

from the 2 articles I"ve seen it's also mention that this affect geforce RTX , Quadro , NVS and Tesla cards (cards that have learning cores)

I haven't seen any mention of their gts or gtx series of cards.

There are occasionally security updates.
Updating grafic driver is like starting a game. Double click, make a choice, click, wait, done.

I have no idea why there is a discussion about that.

Yeah alright I'll update it anyway, it's just that this whole situation just makes no sense, security breach through nvidia drivers? I mean it's like saying you spotted a dragon outside.

I'm running a gtx 1660 ti btw and no gefore experience, that app is not accessible to us here anymore, for a few years now the login just doesn't work.
Choose custom "installation". So you only install what you want.

The grafic driver is for calculation of what you see the same as what a browser is for accessing the internet. Vulnerabilities can be bad in both.
I have an gt 1030 and can still access geforce experience , even if it's not mentioned in the list of affected cards I still updated the drivers.
Its the driver that was vulnerable. So if you can get the new driver, you were affected by the old driver. So to say.

Was my card mentioned in the list?
The list is the driver number.
The fixed driver is the one you should load.

Just finished installing it, 566.03 released on 22nd october, that's what was available
And that solved the problem.

Yeah alright, just double checking my settings and test some games now.
If you do not click fresh install, all is like before.

In estimation around 4 times a year there was a reason to update nvidia drivers.

Years ago, ati updates caused the icons on desktop to move. That was bad.
Today updating a driver is no biggie.
