Steamwebhelper not responding - Whisky Emulator
Hi there, I have been using an emulator called Whisky to load windows steam games on my M1 MacBook Air. Until today, it has been working just fine, successfully opening Steam and my windows game. However, when I tried loading it today, it got stuck in the 'Steamwebhelper not responding' page, with the options of Restart Steam, Restart Steam with GPU Acceleration Disabled, Restart Steam with Browser Sandboxing Disabled, Restart steamwebhelper, and Exit Steam. None of these helps opening the Steam App. I've also tried reinstalling Steam with the newest version on the website. Anyone have solutions to this?

What helped me personally was this: I uninstalled the Whisky app and installed a new version from their official website. After launching the new version, everything worked as before.

just make the bottle use win11, it helped me(win11 doesn't support 32-bit as far as I know, so it runs in 64)

Steam runs fine if I don't use an external monitor.

Someone else had the same issue, as posted here:

Thanks man, your comment led me into a rabbit hole to discover a permanent solution.

My steam just stopped working again today after running the downgraded version for the last 2 months.
I found the comment in the link below from the whisky Github page which actually solved all issues for me.

In short my solution is remove all steam config Arguments, let the steam app update, close it. Change your MacOS system language(Changed mine from English US to English UK) then restart your Mac.
After that run whisky and steam, everything will work fine

Stopped working for me on Whisky after Unity engine upgrade from 5 to 6. Runs fine on kegworks.

Where can I found those arguments in my drive? Steam just stopped working on both my bottles

they probably changed something. i tried the "language swap" trick 4 times and steam still wants to update and then do nothing. not even an error message anymore

if by any chance someone else is looking for a solution, I found this on reddit and it worked:

Working solution from whiskey discord:

then click on the "config" dropdown and now you will have local and arguments. copy paste this line in argument -forcesteamupdate -forcepackagedownload -overridepackageurl http://web.archive.org/web/20240520if_/media.steampowered.com/client -exitsteam then click run in the bottom right. steam will "update" (it will download the downgraded version) then closes itself automatically.

then you have to go back to your programs and click the gear agasin on steam like in step 1 (because Whisky will still show the program running if you don't do that so you can't run again)

once you're back on the page with the Arguments, delete the whole line and copy paste this instead -noverifyfiles -nobootstrapupdate -skipinitialbootstrap -norepairfiles -overridepackageurl
Now press run again and steam should be working
