How do I uninstall a patch?

Right click on the patch in your library and click delete local content which would uninstall that patch. If you do that to the game you'll delete your games data which means you would have to start all over again.

If you're talking about a patch then the answer is no, you can't uninstall a patch, Steam games needs to stay up-to-date in order for you to be able to play them.

On the other hand, you can uninstall dlc's.

Updates are the same as patches, you can't delete them.

Updates are used by developers to fix bugs in their games and add new things, if you don't update your game you will not be able to play it.

Example: You are running the version 1.9 of a game, the developers release a new update ( version 2.0), all the players will need to update the game to version 2.0 in order to play it.

Hope that made it more clear for you, so why you want to delete updates or patches ?
