I've been having the same problem with any games I try to install since yesterday, not sure what's going on but I've done everything from changing my download region (even to another continent) to removing the "appmanifest" files from my steamapps folder. Seems like something with the server since it's popping up for so many people all of the sudden, but aside from waiting all I can think of now is to uninstall steam and reinstall it.

I've been having the same problem. Sometimes I'll also get the message "content servers unreachable." So far as I can tell it's a Steam server problem. I tried this solution but it didn't work. And the thing is I was getting the error last night so I went to bed and tried it again this morning and am still getting the error. So now I wonder....

Getting same error as well. Started last night as I tried to update CS:Go and TF2. Now it will not let me install/update anything and get same error message.

I am getting the same error(s), Both the "missing content manifest" and the "content servers unreachable". I got it to fix itself a day or two ago, and i updated some games, but now the errors are back and it says that the updates didnt even take place. Doesn't anyone know how to fix this?

Thats worst case scenerio....I mean you can try it and see if it works.....I was having the same problem downloading Bioshock Infinite and then noticed it was affecting updates as well as downloads across my entire library.

The quick fix that worked for me is to go into Steam Settings and under the Downloads tab, there is an option to select your download region. It might take some trial and error (which can be annoying since you have to restart steam everytime you do this), but after trying a few different servers you should be able to fix the problem. Keep in mind it doesn't hurt to try servers in regions that are not in your country....GOOD LUCK!!!!

I tried the changing of my download region multiple times before today, and then i went through, trying every single region, and it finally worked when i switched it to Vietnam.:steamhappy:

I get this problem with every update for every game now. Changing regions does nothing for me. I have to delete localconfig.vdf nearly every day.

Thanks Scooby, Vietnam fixed this for me too

Vietnam worked. Finally after hours of struggle, it worked. :steamhappy:

it's your anti virus most likely. Turn it off then install update and turn it back on, worked for me. It's weird cause I didn't have any compatibility problems until recently. I use bitdefender, but I have read people with webroot also experience this from time to time.

It has to be something with steam's latest updates. I had this issue then it went away just to come back again with it showing no signs of stopping. Changing it to Nam worked for me as well but I did not have issues of this when using another computer I installed steam on in the past 2 weeks a bit before this became an issue. Also MY anti-vr is Stopzilla, the real stuff not the Malware that wants 300$

My solution:

1) run steam://flushconfig
This will reset your steam config and cause you to sign in again. It didn't work for me but it is something I tried and I don't know for sure if it helped.
2) changed download region to Vietnam. This worked, and am updating right now.
