Steam Store, Thumbnails, and Pictures Not Loading

Launching the Steam app today only to find that the steam store front page doesn't load correctly or not at all. It will be a black screen that will eventually load blue underlined text to the left that are the titles of the categories. Along with this problem any profile pictures do not load, nor does the game backgrounds when I select them in the library. All my games launch fine and everything, but the Steam Store just will not load properly among other things.

This one was basically a merger (at #68) of ~3-4 recent parallel threads around the same issue with some older stuff. Not sure how useful it can be for any future incidents.
Also, it is not clear if the issue still persists for some users.
According to the map at

there seem to be still some isolated cases going on.

hey i just came here to specifically open a thread like this, but it seems there is no need, since im not the only one who has this issue. this is how my steam looks like in my latest firefox quantum
