Steam Removed My DLC...
My Skyrim was acting up, so I verified the game's cache integrity, and then tried to launch my game, but couldn't due to mod requirement errors. I looked at the game properties and saw in the "dlc" section that I no longer have my Dawnguard dlc. I assume the reason for this is that I redeemed a gamestop code for the skyrim "game of the year" edition, which included the dlc, and when i verified the game, it searched for the in-store dlc purchases. I paid 20 extra dollars for the goty edition, and I'm pretty pi55ed that not only do i no longer have my dawnguard, but I also can't launch the game. I'm taking suggestions, but I think this is steams fault, but why would valve care about MY problems, it's not like i basically just got ROBBED by them...

Yea anytime u add mods or modified files, scripts, configs, etc... to a Steam game, u need to move those out of the game folder before u verify. As Steam will auto replace or delete modded files as part of the verification process.

Any way to get it back? I tried loot, but it was missing in THAT directory too

So u owned Skyrim without any DLCs; then u took a code for Legendary Edition (which includes Skyrim + the 3 paid DLCs) and activated that code in Steam?

You sure you activated the code on the correct Steam Account?

Cause if the DLC selections are not in Skyrim > Properties > DLCs; then u do not own them on that account.

1. Log out of the steam client
2. Start the steam client
3. recover account -> by product key
4. enter product key of Gamestop Skyrim version
5. see what account name it gives you.

I entered the code for skyrim (with dawnguard) from gamestop about 3 years ago. I doubt I'd remember the code or even still have it on me

Some (most?) people save, at least, the booklet or the DVD (sleeve) insert with the code. Even used, it's still a quick method to prove ownership or retrieve an account on Steam.

Anyway, if you had it for 3 years, it hasn't been revoked or removed by Steam or Gamestop, so you're either logged in to the wrong account, or something really weird has happened. Verifying only checks the files on disk but even if it checked purchases, it would have run into the registration of the GOTY edition. I've done it on enough retail bought, DLC heavy games and GOTY's over the years to know that didn't cause the issue.

You could go to that same recover account feature and enter email addresses you used 3 years ago and see if another account pops up. Other than that, the only option left is to contact support.

I tried steam support, but all it did was refer me to discussions and the bethesda website. They don't seem to understand that the problem is steam, not skyrim. As for your suggestion on recovering my account, that sounds risky to me, and i don't want to lose any game progress or items

Mulled it over, this is what happened:

1) You bought the GOTY 3 years ago, registered it (accidentally) to a different account (brother, sister, parent, alt?).
2) You installed the game/DLC.
3) At some point you logged back into your current account.
4) The way Skyrim works, that doesn't matter. Once the DLC is installed, you can play it regardless whether you own it.
5) The game stopped working, and you verified it.
6) At this point, Steam does check whether you own the DLC and deleted Dawnguard.

The only way you're going to get your twenty bucks back, is to identify which account you registered the GOTY to. If you don't want to do that, wait for the next sale and buy the GOTY on your present account for $7.50. After all, what's another $7.50 for a game that already gave you ~480 hours of fun

Yeah. I think I'd pay for the dlc, just to not go through the trouble.
