[Solved] Changing display resolution outside of a game?
I accidentally changed a game's display to widescreen, and now my square monitor goes black every time I enter the game.

Try ALT + Enter if you're fullscreen, it might switch to Windowed mode.

If that happens, you can move the window to left/right to be able to navigate the menu's so you can restore the default settings.

Just tried it, doesn't seem to do anything. Thanks though, is there any other way?

You already posted there.

Generally (I don't own this game), removing configuration files (That define your resolution and settings that are stored in my docs/steam cloud/game folder can be removed to "regenerate" a new configuration upon starting a game usually fixes these problems (Reset to default)

In source games, you could use -autoconfig as a way to reset any source game settings, but I have no idea how it works for the game you're having problems with.

right click game on library, properties, set launch options then type
-w 800 -h 600

In C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Silence of the Sleep , there was a "settings" notepad. Inside is just:

[settings]
master_brightness=127
master_volume=90
screen_mode=0

nothing else there, I tried changing the screen_mode to 1,2,3, and 4, none of them worked.

Minimum Requirements:

Additional Notes: Widescreen monitor (16:9) that supports refresh rate of 60Hz and minimum resolution of 1280x720.

It was working fine the first time I launched game. It was only after I accidentally changed the display settings that the game blacked out

Whats your resolution when it was working?

You go to your Steam directory. In there you select the folder of your game.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\"GAME OF YOURS"

Then you search for a config file or something like it. Sometimes you also need a steam.apll I think it is called. There you can look it through with Notepad, Editor or WordPad. You need to look for something like resolution or high, width. Then you just need to correct the Numbers to your Display resolution. That's it!

Thanks for the help guys, I did it the hard way and used a widescreen monitor to solve the problem.
