Do US/NE game gifts have region restrictions too?
Hello. I'm thinking of trading for a Final Fantasy XIII (NE) game gift sometime in the future. (I don't want the Asian version, which only has the Japanese voiceover.)

My question is, do they have region restrictions too? Something like "This game is only playable in these countries, etc." And what does 'NE' mean?

This is purely speculation, but I would think NE stands for North America and Europe.

AFAIK, theres only two versions, the Asia version and The ROW version (Which i'm guessing is what the "NE" version is)

I see. Thanks for the quick replies!

Sucks to be a gamer in a region other than NA/Europe. We pay the same price, but get a restricted game. Smh.

Depends where you are, often if you're in a locked in region your price will be lower for games. Some countries fall to the wayside though.

Games regarding Russia, China, Japan (and other Slovik or Asian coutries) usually those folks pay ALOT less, but those games are usually always restricted to those regions.

If you purchase US, EU, ROW (Rest of the World) version of game, those can be gifted outside of those regions and used. The reason being is usually because that higher price has been paid.

I've never seen a game labeled as "NE" region before though.
NA, yes, as this means North America

In Steam if you purchase something as a Gift, and has such a restriction, it will be listed in the Gift / Item details in your Inventory.

Here are a few examples:

So if my sister, living in South Korea, buys a Steam Game that has a Republic of Korea restriction, she can't play it outside that country. But if I buy it for her as Gift in USA and send to her, it is region-free. And she is free to play it in both countries (unless otherwise stated) among many others.

I know. Still, I'd rather pay a bit more and be able to play my games anywhere. I mean, the price difference must be way cheaper than buying a plane ticket back to Asia just so I can play the game. XD

I may be wrong here, and often am, but I believe the region restriction is only on gifts. So if you buy the game for yourself in Asia and move to another country, you should still be able to access your games.

Both gifts and some games. Like 'Hitman: Absolution', for example. It says: "Notice: Purchases made in this country will only be playable in Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam."
