Astro A40 TR cable question

I just picked up a set of A40 tr's. I love the set. The Only issue I have an issue with is the 3.5mm cable coming from the mix amp to the headset. Its not braided. I hate the rubber coated wires as they tend to get stuck on my chair or somewhere else. Can you substitute it for a braided 3.5mm cable and still get voice chat? The cable that comes with it has a mute button but I can live without that if I had to. I just prefer the braided cables.
