What type of xbox controller do you have? If it's a wireless controller you will need a pc receiver like this.

(the official ones cost more but almost any compatible one will do)

I do have a wireless one with a wireless receiver but how do I use it with SteamOS? I use the xbox 360 controller with regular steam games before but I dont know how to use it with SteamOS. Is it as simple as plugging the receiver in and hooking it up with my controller and playing?

How do I get to the base Linux on SteamOS? Like to open Terminal because SteamOS is like ChromeOS you need to do something to get to Linux at the base of it all.

Try that first, because it probably is.
