use home button on xbox controller for steam overlay

hey!

so i was just ingame and tried pressing the home button on my xbox controller but nothing happend. also it seems like i can't reconfigure the button to any other action in windows or steam.
i would love to open the steam overlay with the home button while being ingame. is this possible somehow?

im using windows 10 LTSB edition and a normal wired xbox 360 controller.

The cause is the Xbox app in Windows 10. The Xbox app has it's own overlay that uses the same button (the home button). I had previously disabled Game DVR from the Xbox app, but the steam overlay still did not work.
To fix this you must first turn Game DVR back on from the Xbox app. Then run any steam game in Windowed mode and press Win + G. This will bring up the Xbox game bar. Towards the right of the bar there is a gear icon. This brings up a unique settings menu not found in the main Xbox app. There will be a checked option that says "Open game bar when pressing (Home button) on a controller". Un check that box! Your Steam overlay will work!

Solution I found is very similar to WingedGundam's. Open the Xbox menu by pressing the Xbox home button, go to the Settings menu there on the top bar, then look through the menus until you see a checkbox "Open game bar when pressing home button." Even if that box is unchecked, just check it and then uncheck and it will correct itself.
Just wanted to give a little update, since the app has def seen some changes in the last 4 years.

you need to do 2 things:
1- in win10 uncheck "Open game bar when pressing (Home button) on a controller" in settings/xbox game bar
2- in steam check "Use the Big Picture Overlay when using Steam Input enabled controller from the desktop" in settings/in-game
