PLEASE HELLP!!!! xbox one controller
So i bought an xbox one controller for games like Mass effect bioshock and Battlefield to use on my laptop since the keyboard just wasnt cutting it for me. The games run fine, my computer recognizes that i have a controller plugged in in the devices menu, the moment i plugged it in it downloaded all the drivers, but every time i open up the games the controller just doesnt seem to do anything.

In Battlefield bad company 2 if i click on the right joystick, it acts like i pressed esc and brings up the menu, so i know that at least in some respect it is aware that the controller is there, but nothing else at all will work for any of the games.

I tried upgrading to windows 10, i tried...nothing else realy since the drivers are there and the games work but i have no clue what to do. Is there some sort of configuration i need to set up somewhere? When i go into the key binding options, it doesnt respond to trying to bind anything to the controller. I am getting frustrated cause i realy want to use a controller for these games but I have no idea what to do here. Is there something i need to configure special to make it recognize the controller instead of the mouse? I've tried looking up multiple threads with relatively the same problem but never found a suitable solution. I looked up videos on how to set it up, and most people just seem to plug in the controller and they just start playing games with it no problem, but its not doing it for me.

Tried all my usb ports, different usb cables, sacrificing a goat, bathing in chicken blood, praying to god, changing religion then praying to that god, renouncing god, satanic worship, asking my old mom for help, asking the ♥♥♥♥♥ on the corner (not the same woman you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥), magick, looking at porn with the title "geeky gamer chick gives knows how to use the d-pad" where they are obviously not even playing a real game but i watched super intently just in case she had the answer..... and surprisingly none of these aforementioned rituals or queries has brought satisfaction to my urge for controller based mayhem. PLEASE someone just magic this into working....or use science and technology to answer this. thanks!!

So i finally went to big picture mode which ive never done before and was looking at games like mass effect bioshock 1 and battlefield and they had a little keyboard next to them, while bioshock 2 and infinite and dc universe online had controller symbols on them....does this mean i cant even play mass effect with a controller?? It says they are "heavily keyboard and mouse dependent" but does that mean i cant even use a controller if i wanted to?? Cause i played them all on xbox360 and loved them sooo much more wih a controller then a keyboard and mouse. please help me understand if i can switch them to controller setup

Mass Effect 1 and Bioshock 1 do not have any controller support on PC. That is also shown on the store page by the absence of the "Partial/Full Controller Support" notification.

P.S.: Try to use the Shift key once in a while and some paragraphs would be nice as well. Your wall of text is quite hard to read.

Windows 10, you might have to remap the buttons using the Xbox Accessories App, from the Windows Store, its also free.

Edit: Found a link https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/store/apps/xbox-accessories/9nblggh30xj3

Are mass effect 2, battlefield bad company 2, fallout new vegas, or bioshock 2 available to use with a controller by any chance? Because if they are not, then i have made some gross errors in where i thought i was going with my pc gaming.

Mass Effect 2, no.
Battlefield Bad Company 2, no.
Fallout: New Vegas, yes.
Bioshock 2, yes.

You can get any game to work with a controller, they just dont always work right out of the box, you will have to keep mapping and remaping your controllers buttons until they give the desired effect. I suspect somewhere in the app you be able to bind the letter R to the Y(button) on your controller which in most games is reload, follow that for all other buttons and eventually you will have something that works as you want.

That is what i thought too, but it seems they dont respond in the mapping.

You could try something called xpadder, ive used it before for the 360 controller, not sure if it will work for the One controller, worth a try though I suppose.

Would remapping help if it works on some games and not others that offer full controller support?

Yes. XBOX 360 and XBOX 1 controllers work on all of the Mass Effect games, but you either need a controller mapping program...which doesn't always seem to work... or you need to go to the Nexus site and download their mods for this game. It would be GREAT if Steam would somehow work this out to help those of us that need this sort of help. I cannot for the life of me figure out why they won't, but other people in the world seem to care about us enough to make it happen.

BTW, it is complicated. I am actually on here right now searching for some easier way to fix this issue...should it exist.... I do not understand all of the acronyms and stupid geek jargon that is floating around the internet giving half of the instructions to the solutions. I wish people would learn to speak some form of English so that the rest of us could make heads or tails out of what the heck others are saying. I hate the attitude that some have of 'If you don't understand what I am saying then you are stupid, and stupid people have no business playing games'. There is a giant leap between installing a program mod by changing the internal game programming, and playing a game with mod plug-ins. This is the 21st century. Why is this still an issue? I think geeks these days seem to just lack any sort of empathy or compassion for the woes of others.... Makes me want to choke them out....

Wow you went really deep there and your point is extremely valid. i completely understand what you are talking about since i have been attempting to fix this problem where some plugins dont work or i would have to know some programming language to solve it. it literally makes no sense whatsoever that these games are easily playable on a console with a controller yet they cant make some simple addition to steam to make all of these games playable on a computer.

some games are better with a mouse and keyboard and some games are infinitely better with a controller. are there any good controller mods that you have found to work best?

The original Bioshock does, it was Bioshock 2 that had no controller support until about 3 years after release.
