Steam Guard Lies ( Claims I haven't used mobile app in 7 days so it holds all transactions for 72 hours )
I am having major issues with Steam Guard ( Support ticket opened days ago with no help offered [ other than to make suggestions in the suggestions forum, and a "comments forwarded notice" ] ) and so are my friends; so when I say "I am having issues" or that it claims "I" xxxx, we're having issues.

- Steam guard claims I haven't used the mobile app for 7 days so it holds trades for 72 hours. This is untrue; I use Steam Guard and I use the Mobile app ( which is full of bugs ) as recently as today.

- Steam guard and logging in. If you log in during a period of high-usage ( slow response ) then you can't log in because the code becomes invalid by the time the servers are reached.

- Steam guard and receiving confirmations ( via mobile app ): They rarely show up. The phone chimes but you are most likely to receive the "Nothing to confirm" message even if the Steam site shows "Awaiting mobile confirmation". To top it off, if you cancel the trade offer to resubmit it ( ie so your items aren't marked as unavailable to trade in case the offer sticks ) you are stuck with a 7 day "screw you" period where you can't trade at all.

If you don't use mobile guard, you're stuck with 72 hours of waiting. If you do, you're stuck with 24 to 72 hours of waiting. If you click cancel to resubmit, you're stuck with 7 days of no trading at all. If you use Steam Guard via E-Mail you're stuck with 72 hour waiting. If you don't use Steam Guard, you're stuck with 72 hour waiting..

See the problem? Especially with holiday items we pay for ( x amount in store per card drop, for example ).

I can understand requiring a confirmation ( such as Microsoft and their well-refined app which displays all approve / deny groups in a list, regardless of number of accounts so you aren't required to login / out each time you want to check for a different account.. Simply log in to all ( add all accounts ) then any confirmations are shown in a single list as they appear.

- Less likely Steam guard and more likely an issue with Steam and posting reviews. If you post a review during high-usage from Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer OR Steam during high-usage, it will not post. This could be a part of Steam Guard ( Session management ) although this is likely an issue with Steam site itself.

Anyway, why use Steam Guard mobile when it doesn't work? If you miss a notification for any reason ( logged in wrong account, not logged in, phone is off, steam service on phone crashes, etc... ) then the notification doesn't show up. Your phone will chime if the service is running, but that's it.... You're hit with penalty after penalty after penalty for using it to protect your account instead of it being seamlessly integrated ( like how Microsoft does it ).

But, if we don't use the mobile app, we're also hit with penalties over and over ( at least not 3 times over though ).

And, yes, this is a HELP Request. I am looking for any way to resolve this issue which won't take Steam 30 days to respond.

No, you got the cause all wrong. It's not the mobile app you need to use - it's the authenticator.
You know, the one that generates that 5 character alphanumeric code for you to login.

Now, with that out of the way - were you indeed using the authenticator or not?
Acecool Jan 4, 2016 @ 1:25am
I was using the authenticator as my original post states and I have been using it for a long time ( months more than 7 days ). When you enable the "App" in Steam Guard, you're required to use the authenticator. I hope this clears up any confusion.

Gotcha, just making sure you weren't wording it incorrectly.

I've had the steam guard authenticator on also since it was first released and I still cant do any trading without it being held for 72 hours, also if you cancel a trade or the trade you were doing with in those 72 hours it'll give you a trade ban for 7 days

Open up a Support ticket and ask them to check that the server is correctly recording/reporting when you enabled the mobile authenticator.

Refer to the section on "why do i still have trade holds"
Acecool Jan 22, 2016 @ 10:51pm
That section does nothing. I'd open a support ticket if I could, but unfortunately I can only re-open old ones and each time I include more than one subject matter in the post, it is overlooked by the reviewer and I get one over-simplified response of which I have already tried ( and it was overlooked in the ticket in the section regarding what I've tried )...

In terms of the mobile authenticator; I have since disabled it and can get trades with as little as 24 hours, but mostly it is still at 72 hours. This Steam garbage needs to be disabled and reverted to where we can trade properly; enabling the mobile authenticator and leaving it enabled for 7 to 15 days does nothing and the alert notifying you that you haven't used it, when you have, will continue coming up.

My solution is to boycott trading and to post in these topics until the system is reverted; I've already lost enough items due to this addition to the trading system ( items disappearing without being traded, trades going through on items that expire so the other party receives non-expired item and I get nothing, etc... ).
