The temporary authorization was canceled and your payment method wasn't charged.
So I got a game for a friend over the holiday sale.
But it shows this in PayPal:
"The temporary authorization was canceled and your payment method wasn't charged."

Why was I not charged for this?

I was charged for other gifts I got even after this one. My accounts are in good standing and my PayPal Debit card works fine in stores. Even yesterday I purchased with it and all of those charges cleared. Some more recent ones even from Steam.

If I am charged before the 1st of next month then it's going to create a problem. Because I already accounted for these charges as being cleared. I only noticed the cross-out on the payment because I happened to log into PayPal just now.

Some people elsewhere are saying it's Valve canceling your payment for Christmas. That just sounds ridiculous. If this is Valves idea of randomly covering the cost of gifts then it's just screwing a lot of things up for us. There are more practical ways to handle that by putting funding into a steam wallet or something.
So I highly doubt that's the case.
This looks like a funding error.

Edit:
By the way. Yes the gift was sent over steam and she is able to play it even now.

I had the exact same problem with a gift I bought for someone, only I used my credit card (prepaid) for it. They can play it just fine and it still shows on my account that the transaction was successful, but the hold was dropped from my card and the money is back on it.

I sent a support ticket about it about an hour ago just in case. I don't want any problems from this.

I have a feeling they're going to attempt to charge it again. When I no longer have funds in PayPal or in the secondary bank I tied to for these exact reasons. (Isn't the first time they screwed me with 'mistakes'.)

That will lock down my PayPal, they'll probably put a 180 day lock which is typical. And that will screw up other payments I use the card for currently.
Definitely not worth a $13 game.

With recent events at Valve allowing Steam users to access other people's accounts. Then this possibility... I'm done with it.
