Unable to play DVDs on Windows 10
As the title indicates, I am unable to play DVDs and I am running on Windows 10. This is my first time actually trying to play a dvd with my computer. I should note that 10 does come with DVD software but nothing happens when I insert a disc.

Any idea what the issue may be?

Yep - Windows 10 doesn't include the required software to play DVDs!
Try VLC[www.videolan.org].

What's the exact error message/behaviour you're seeing?

There is no message or anything showing. I put the disc in and absolutely nothing happened.. like I don't even have a dvd drive.

When you open up "My Computer", is the drive listed? When you insert the disc, does it give any indication that it has detected the disc?
If not to the first question, does the drive appear in Device Manager?

Here are the Windows 10 forums: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows?auth=1

You'll have better luck there.

The drive isn't listed in "my computer" or the device manager and there is no indication the disc is detected anywhere either.

VLC is a pile of sh.... install Kawaii Codec Pack which comes with Media Player Classic Home Cinema and inbuilt MadVR support.

But the dissappering disc drive problem is a pretty common one in Win 10. You might recheck if you have proper drivers for your new OS.

Well, then installing VLC won't do jack. You could, of course, have mentioned that earlier.
Do you see the drive in the BIOS? Open the PC and see if a cable to the drive is loose.

If the drive isn't listed in Device Manager, you need to open up the case and look for the broken/loose connection.
Since you can insert disks, it sounds like you have power. So I'd guess it is the SATA connection between the drive and the motherboard.

In Device Manager I selected View->Show Hidden Devices. DVD was shown and I uninstalled it.
After reboot the DVD was not detected, so I uninstalled all IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers:

I couldn't get anywhere with this post unfortunately. DVD isn't shown in the device manager.

I don't understand what it can be. I never disconnected or tampered with the DVD drive. I never had this issue prior to switching to Windows 10.

For whatever reason the ATA cable was disconnected. I really have no idea why... it's connected to the disc drive but the other end was hidden in the back.
