Wake PC from sleep with Xbox One (360) wireless controller
I have figured it out with the xbox one wireless controller and official adapter. It should work on any wireless receiver hopefully. Here's what I did

1) plug in the receiver into a USB 3.0 port, not 2.0
2) go to device management and make sure that any thing pertaining to the receiver or controller itself has the option to wake the system from sleep. if it doesn't have the option, don't worry as long as you let the adapter and xinput wake. I didn't have the option when in the usb human interface input selected (says on xbox wireless adapter in general info)
3) test if it works by putting the system to sleep and waking it with the center X button

Here is my reasoning. It could be my motherboard but most should be able to charge from usb 3.0 while asleep. There is power going into the adapter since usb 3.0 should have power going to it at all times. I was able to put my pc to sleep twice making sure all my peripherals were turned off and I pressed the central xbox button and my pc woke up as I hoped. This will not do it from the off state however since I haven't tested it but I seriously doubt it would work. This should work with the 360 controller since they are pretty similar. It might work with another wireless controller altogether but I will not test that. If you have controllers or adapters that are not official xbox but were able to wake the pc from sleep, please share to help other members. Hope this helps!

Thanks for this info I was searching exactly for this. I just replaced my windows 10 shell with steam big picture and made a explore.exe shortcut in steam to get back to windows.

Hey man, are you still able to wake up your pc with your wireless xbox one controller?

Honestly I took the feature off because my mouse also woke up the computer and that became annoying

Holy cannoli. I've been trying to figure this out all day. I would have never thought to just plug the wireless adapter into a USB 3.0 port. That's such a strange solution, especially since I can easily wake the computer when the controller is plugged directly into a USB 2.0 port with the charging cable.

Thanks for suggesting plugging things into a USB 3 port! That worked for getting my wireless keyboard and mouse to wake the PC from sleep.

My Xbox 360 controller still doesn't wake it though, does anyone have experience of this working?

This worked for me.. The only issue I had is I accidentally had the network adaptor set to only a magic packet can wake the computer. Once I disabled that I can wake the pc with the Xbox one guide button. So now I just leave Bigbox loaded for that console experience
