You may need to update the controller's firmware via an xboxone before you can use it on windows 10. You may also want to make 100% sure you can use a charge cable to play with the controller on a pc.

I have read that in order to use the xbnoxone controller on windows 10 pc you may have to update the controller's firmware via the console. Also check online to see if you can use the charge cable as a means to connect. The old pads you couldn't use the charge cable it has to be the wireless receiver or a proper cabled version.

Try different micro usb wires. I had this issue when I tried as well. Not all wires work for me and I read somewhere online (not sure if true) that you need to use a micro(b) usb. But the one that works for me has the letter "b" on it.

I'm pretty sure you can not use your Xbox one controller with your pc just by attaching the charging cable. You need to buy the $30 dongle. I may be wrong.

The reason it flashes and turns off is because it has not connected to anything. That is normal for the Xbox one controller to do. When you find the correct wire, the light will stay solid. You may also want to check into making sure you have the correct driver to use the Xbox one controller on the PC. a lot of computers below Windows 10 had driver issues. Windows 10 is now plug and play though.

This thread is from August but the links should still be valid for the drivers.

Found that on the web. Says it only worked for him using the original cable.

This is not the only option to using an Xbox one controller on PC. Some people reported charge cables work for some others it doesn't.

check your drivers as well in device manager. Make sure you have the driver to run the controller on the PC.
