Windows 7 optimization.
Tired of your hard drive going crazy when you boot your computer? Go to services and disable superfetch. It preloads your most used things into memory so they start faster, but hogs system resources on boot, and takes system resources that should not be in use.

For everything else refer to this link. I just went through this. And my boot after restarting was about 200-300% faster, no hard usage on boot, and no unneeded services running anymore.

After disabling superfetch, go to your windows folder and delete all things in the Prefetch folder. I will provide a link describing superfetch and the effects it can have, and why it is better disabled.

I am thrilled with how my pc is running now, and i hope you will be to :happymeat:

**More results. After testing disabled superfetch and removing all superfetch prefetch folder items besides readyboot. The boot speed was dramatically decreased. I highly recommend leaving all startup items that load during boot in the prefetch folder. It will help alot.

**Last results. Superfetch should definitely be disabled. But after disabling it and deleting all things in the Windows/Prefetch folder. Leave superfetch on, and reboot 3 times letting your computer load all startup items. After all these things are in your prefetch folder your boot times will be much better. Then disable Superfetch and keep it from loading non essential things in memory for later use, and thrashing your hard drive every time you reboot. Cheers!!

Let things load when asked, not before.

Also to remove the files from ReadyBoot from the prefetch folder. Refer to this link.

I as well as many others, dont need windows deciding what to do for me and running my hardware ragged trying to predict what im going to do. Disabling alot of things helps the system boot faster, stops it from going crazy at completely random times. Its just better overall, so what if you have to wait 1-2 seconds longer for a program to load. The stress it takes off of your system is worth it. Its not about patience, its not about the boot speed i gained. Its about the hard drive thrashing that goes on during every boot. The faster boot speed was just a happy side effect.

I looked into the ReadyBoot. It seems it is responsible for the cache for thumbnail icons. If you dont use them the link i posted will help you disable them all. I for one use thumbnails. So ill be leaving this one alone.

I edited the first post with my findings and how to optimize the boot speed while also disabling the superfetch from fetching all the items you use every time you boot. Let it load when it is clicked, and not before.

Not everyone has an extra 100 dollars just for an OS drive.

In a perfect world we would all be running 1gb of ram and using ramdisk for the entire lot of it. So what if losing power you lose what ur doing, how often does that really happen you know?
