Steam needs to access network drive when I install a game (more info inside)
So I have a external hard drive plugged into my router to use as a NAS of sorts, I've mapped the drive to Z: to make it easier to get to, the problem is it's an old Mechanical drive so it's super slow, obviously after not in use for some time it goes to sleep, when I go to install a game on steam it has to wake up this drive in order for me to install a game (Steam freezes up until the drive can wake up/spin up and say "oh yeah no steam library here") I haven't added Z: as a games library location so why is it trying to access it, freezing my entire steam for about 20secs while it wakes up

edit: Forgot to actually ask the question.... can I disable it looking at this drive so it doesn't have to wake up and cause my steam to freeze for a period of time?

You only option is to temporarily disable the network share.

The reason is that Steam, when installing a game, scans valid locations for libraries to offer the option to create a new Steam library on an alternate drive on the spot.

There's no option to disable that functionality or to blacklist drives.

Aient it cheaper to buy usb external disk, ( NAS is not treated as a DAS and that desktop if you did not know, my DAS is off atm, and somwhow steam dont Flag it's content as uninstalled anymore, they most have change something. plenty of post have that as dont have turn off external as advice.

i cant say if this is my system only, i dont see to get issue with it as all the post use to point out.
could be nice if CF or other remote disk user can confirm this.

could be part of the new storage management and the ways they do it now.

Bump. I'm tired to hear all the hard drives from my NAS spin up everytime I ask Steam to install something.
