Failed to initialize dependencies Easy AntiCheat NixOs
In a few games like Apex, Elden Ring, and The First Descendant when launched they fail to initialize dependencies. I'm assuming it's the EAC (Easy AntiCheat) as with Elden Ring I just put launch instructions in steam to bypass the EAC and run in offline mode. But I have a friend who wants to play the other two games and I'm having a hell of a time trying to figure out how to solve this on my own. Does anyone have any thoughts? Steam is installed on my config file not via flatpack, But from what I saw on another forum where someone was having this issue on Elden Ring that doesn't seem to matter.

Most newer games that use Easy Anti Cheat don't support non-Windows OSes for this very reason and refuse to start if EAC is bypassed.

Epic Games killed Linux support for EAC.

Two out of the three listed I know do run on Linux distros but yeah NixOs is a bit different than Arch and Debian so I can understand it having a bit of a problem. Might even be a problem with the release I'm using. I'm guessing it's something on my end otherwise we would be seeing way more complaints regarding general distros and the EAC I imagine. Or I'm just not looking in the right places to see those complaints. I figured I should ask here before clogging the NixOs forums since they don't really have a section for this last time I checked.

it might be a hyprland or env variable setting that causes that issue. I run nixos unstable with my own flake and running the game through gamescope from heroic launcher with proton experimental fixed that error for me. hope that works for you :steamhappy:

I think you’re right. BG3’s launcher had some trouble as well but I don’t remember if that was when my config was pretty stock, or if it was after I customized it. I did try gamescope but it resulted in some issues for me and in the end I found that just setting the launch command to env --unset=SDL_VIDEODRIVER %command% was enough to solve this particular issue. This hasn’t been the fix for every game but it has worked for a good handfull of the games that have trouble opening.

awesome bro. I added the heroic game to steam shortcut and unset the variable and that worked too without gamescope! idk how to fix it but if I use gamescope it didn't lock the mouse in hyprland. so this is way better thanks! :steamhappy:

No problem man! I tried setting env variables with gamescope as well but in some games like TFD I would have this weird issue where after 30min or so frames would tank from 90~fps to like 12. I've seen some other solutions applied by changing the mounting of your drives and others by tying the core count to a game in the launch command. But this has been the most consistent fix I've found for myself. Glad you can use it as well! :praisesun:
This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
