Steam Connectivity Issue - Fatal Error
Hey! For the past couple hours I have been troubleshooting a connection issue with Steam. I've scanned the forums for solutions, and have found nothing. Here is a description of my problem:

First, when I went to download a game I had bought on Steam a while back, I received an error message saying I was in Offline Mode, and needed to go Online. The online mode button wouldn't work, and Steam said it couldn't connect.

First I ran connectivity diagnostics on my computer, no problems. I tried my phones hotspot, no luck. Then, I restarted my computer, no luck, and then I uninstalled, and restarted my computer. Upon reinstalling steam, I received an error message reading "Steam - Fatal Error, Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again." Initially, my error was associated with Error Code 20.

Obviously, its a network connectivity issue. And obviously my internet is fine as I'm managing to make this post. I tried all solutions given in the forum posts below:

Both of these seemed to describe my problem as well. I'm not super skilled in this stuff, so I'm mostly just looking for additional fixes.

Thanks!

wow, I'm having the exact same problem. 2 days ago I tried to reinstall Steam, that's when this error first popped up for me. I'm still trying to find a solution and so close to giving up.

So far I have tried all the methods I could find online,
Clean new install
starting in admin mode
different internet connections including usb tether and wifi hotspot
dns flushing for both windows and for steam

none of it helped so far..:steamsad:

Did you find a fix to the issue? Somehow it seems to be fixed for me. I don't exactly know what I did to fix it. I had given up on the issue and tried again without expecting anything, but it seems to work now.

Since I last replied, I did these things, try them yourself, they might help you too.

* I completely erased everything related to Steam.
* Installed some windows updates that were missing
* changed something in network adapter, ** open device manager>select your network adapter and open properties>power management>uncheck the "turn off power"*whatever* option**
* this time I installed Steam in a different drive
