Problem with blank shortcuts after reinstalling Windows 11 - solution
Before explaining how i did restore my shortcut icons, I'll describe my problem:

I had some games on drive D:, and after reinstalling my Windows 11 (drive C:) and installing Steam (also on drive C:), I've added D: drive to Steam. When creating the desktop shortcut for games from drive D: I saw that all the icons were missing. I've tried many different solutions (Veryfying integrity of game files, deleting IconCache files, etc.), but none of them worked. Probably manually changing icons should do the work, but I did not want to do it for each game separately, so I found another solution.

  1. Veryfy all games from drive D: (i'm not sure if this step can be omitted)
  2. Go to the folder, where steam icons from drive D: are located, in my case it was D:\Steam\steam\games and copy them
  3. Go to the folder where you installed Steam, and find another folder with steam icons, in my case it was C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam\games and paste previously copied icons.
  4. Create shortcuts on desktop, it should work properly now.

I hope it will fix your missing icons problem.

I have a D drive also and its strictly for games only.I would suggest you download the Steam core app into D,then of course download all your games to D.I've never had any problems doing this. You start putting Steam on one drive then games somewhere else, little queer things start to creep in.

I have two drives, SSD and HDD, and I'm installing older games on the second drive. I wrote this step by step solution because I couldn't find any good fixes for this specific problem.
What do you mean with "Go to the folder, where steam icons from drive D: are located, in my case it was D:\Steam\steam\games and copy them"? Can't see icons in the steamapps folder.
