Steam overlay extremely laggy, persistent through clean Windows Installs
I'm having an issue with my Steam overlay where it's extremely laggy. This issue has recurred through completely formatted Windows 10/11 installations. This occurs no matter the game, whether it's a light title such as Worms WMD or a heavier title like Battlefield 2042. While my system isn't top of the line anymore, I don't think it should be struggling either. My temperatures are all within reason while gaming (50-60C on CPU, 40-45C on GPU).

While the overlay is laggy, I can still alt-tab to the Steam client itself and there are no issues. In the overlay however, it will often hang for seconds after clicking something as simple as opening a DM.

Here are my specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
GPU: MSI Seahawk X RTX 2080ti 11GB
RAM: 64GB of 3600MHz DDR4
Motherboard: ROG Strix X570-E Gaming
Cooling: Custom watercooling loop, EKWB monoblock and GPU block, 620mm of radiator
OS: Windows 11 Pro 23H2 22631.3958
Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 1TB as primary, 4 additional SSDs, 1 HDD

Steam Beta Branch: Steam Families Beta
Steam Version: 1722380543
Steam Client Build Date: Tue, Jul 30 6:47 PM UTC -08:00
Steam Web Build Date: Tue, Jul 30 5:44 PM UTC -08:00
Steam API Version: SteamClient021

Note that this was an issue even in the stable branch of Steam, being in the Beta branch has no effect.

Please let me know if there's any additional information that I can provide.

In the Steam browser, Settings -> Interface, (de)select "Enable GPU accelerated rendering in web views (requires restart)" and restart Steam.

I think this might've been it! It seems way better, but I'm going to give it some time to sus out placebo!
God, you GPU is very cold, how to make it?
Respect the topic, i here for the same problem, i see in other forums the fix is turn off acelerated GPU in the options interface, i go try it this tomorrow, In my case it happens very rarely, sometimes it goes ultra fast and then it becomes slow again, in big picture mode it is much more annoying, especially that the interface bugs and although "only the game appears", it appears in the background as if the Steam interface were open, I have to press B multiple times to finally remove it, it should be noted that it does not always happen, but it is annoying.

I use a custom EKWB water cooling loop attached to about 620mm of radiators! I hope this works for you! I no longer have overlay lag with hardware acceleration disabled.
