All steam games lagging
Hi there! All of my steam games have started lagging abruptly after a vacation with my computer. Before, they were running just fine. I've tried other games that are outside of Steam and they dont lag. I have tried everything to fix this issue but i now am resorting to steam forums.

If you need it, here are the specs of my computer

Nvidia 1650 Graphics Card
Intel core i5
8 GB of ram
x64 based

I updated my drivers, i've defragged my computer, literally everything. So that is why i think its a steam issue.

your 8GB of ram is probably the problem, you should have at least 16 or 32GB of ram for most games.

Could be malware slowing down your PC. Or maybe your PC is being throttled because of heat issues. It's still July, after all. Even in a reasonably cool city, that means my gaming PC overheats pretty easily. Or maybe you need to mess around with your power settings. If you have a laptop, and it isn't plugged in, it's likely to go to "balanced" or something, rather than full performance.

It’s not throttling. Checked that today, Heat is fine.. At an ok 104 Fahrenheit. Looked around at power settings and it’s all at high performance.
Thanks for replying though

That’s what I thought at first… But if it was able to run it fine in earlier months why does it decide to not work now?

Either overheating or part of hardware is dying.

another reason

1) background programs running their daily tasks while you playing games on steam

My husband and I are also experiencing this issue. We have been able to play just fine up thru last week. We have been working and haven't had the chance to play anything until yesterday when we discovered we weren't able to due to extreme lag on several games that we attempted. We restarted our router and restarted our computers to see if that would fix the issue, but there was no change.

It is happening on both our computers.

I think I solved my husband and my issues. I think a recent Windows update broke our graphics drivers. I had to reinstall the driver and it seems to have fixed the lag issue at least.

I went to the Device Manager -> Display Adapters and my graphics driver had the yield symbol and said it wasn't working properly. My husband's was the same.

After fixing that I tried a game that previously lagged and it no longer lagged.
