If you load up a game save file will you get all the achievements? Is there data on a save file to show what achievement you've done?
Assassin's creedy Odyssey

For context I have the game on ubisoft long before it was on steam. I want to get 100% on it now steam has Odyssey.

So i know you can't transfer stuff since its 2 different clients. But there is a way to copy the save file from Ubisoft and just paste it into Steam Odyssey save file right?

When i do load the ubisoft save on steam will all the achievements ive gotten be unlocked? is there data on the save file that shows all the 'achievements' ive done? Or will i just have to play from scratch with no achievements unlocked?

It probably depends on the game but most likely won't work. I know it didn't work for me when I tried with a different game (from a different platform). The game save loaded fine, but it didn't unlock any passed achievements from previous gameplay.

The general answer to both your questions is "No." A game unlocks an achievement simply by calling into in this case Steam when in fact achieving the unlock condition during gameplay, and that's to say then not generally during loading a savefile.

What is stored in a savefile is also completely up to a particular game though and there's also nothing conversely stopping the game from storing achievements in the savefile and running through them to unlock any so marked ones upon loading. None that I know of do -- but I also don't know AC Odyssey.

But that's in any case to say then, only trust #2's "yes" if they can confirm they are speaking in the specific context of the game you refer to. Generally it would be "No."

You've had the exact same situation and some achievements unlocked for you when you loaded the save file?

Private profile, first post and a single word. I'd say they have no idea what they're talking about and are just following an outdated guide for levelling up on Steam.

I expect it's possible, but I'd assume it won't automatically unlock them, I know from experience when I've had games that have added achievements after I've played through them they haven't automatically unlocked when I've loaded up a save from after the point they would have unlocked.

It depends on the game. Some will check to see what achievements you've unlocked by the save file and compare it to what Steam says. If it finds any missing on Steam it will send the call to award the achievement to the account.

I had it happen with a game I have on both Epic and Steam, both having achievements. I played on Epic and got 100%, then when I went to play on Steam, it used the same save file and immediately awarded all those achievements to my Steam account. Which annoyed me as I really wanted to replay the game to earn them a second time as I enjoyed playing the game the first time.

One of the prime uses of SAM, https://github.com/gibbed/SteamAchievementManager (or slightly less conveniently of the Steam console's achievement_clear / reset_all_stats).

Word of warning for the unsalvageably pedantic among us: if you're going to clear achievements that you are not going to regain, some of your Steam stats will be off (a bit) for evermore ;)

Can Steam ban you for using it? Beacuse console command for reseting doesn't work for game I want to reset, so I would have to use the SAM.

As per the exact way that you formulate that I'm sort of obliged to say that in a strict reading of the Steam TOS use of SAM could be considered a violation of said TOS -- but the real answer is still "No".

Steam can first of all not realistically even detect SAM: the way SAM works is by pretending to be the game that you want to use it on and then unlocking and/or locking achievements in the exact same way the game would. Detection would require some involved error-prone heuristic -- and that's assuming they'd care at all, which they do not. At least clearing achievements is indeed something that normally also the Steam client allows you to do so why would they? (and unlocking them was something that was at least at some point possible through the mostly same console method; probably still is, even if then now hidden away a bit; certainly of course game-developers can when testing stuff...)

Achievements are to anyone other than you yourself meaning- and worthless virtual endowments of pixels arranged in usually the form of a small picture. Do with said endowments as you please.

(but all that said; if the console doesn't work, SAM may also not)
