Steam Downloads start off strong and immediately starts pausing & lagging
I've been trying to download Once Human for literally two weeks now. I can't get past 30% because it takes too damn long.

The download will start off with good internet and disk speed and then after a couple of minutes either the disk activity will literally stop or the internet activity. It's not an isolated issue it happens with every game.

I had this problem before and i fixed it by re-installing steam, this time it didnt work. I tried the firewall thing, the administrator thing, cleared the download cache, tried to change download region, checked disk health, my downloading and uploading speed is good - around 100 mb each .

What do i do?????

thanks to anyone in advance.

I had that issue, i decided to download all games to ssd or nvme first then move them to HDD, as steam unpacks and uncompresses whilst downloading it puts a strain on standard hdd's and they hate it, even if the drive looks healthy all it takes is a slight io issue or wrie issue and it will grind to a halt. also if the downloaded game has many many small files it will go even slower.

Okay this worked. I guess HDDs are not made for this. Thanks again.

no problem, maybe the drive is shingled if it is they have horrendous write speeds but good read speeds, moving to the hdd from ssd with be much faster as the files are already unpacked and sorted.
It doesn't matter what kind of drive, downloading fluctuates like crazy. Its always been an issue. It depends on the time of day and the amount of users at any given moment. If an SSD works, good for you.I would recommend downloading at night when there are less users ,therefore higher download speeds.Go to bed and when you wake up your game should be installed & ready to go.

I download anytime and always at full speed about 97MB per second sometimes 114MBps, does not matter time of day, but if i download to hdd it takes an age and maxes out at 40MBps, download to ssd and full speed all day anytime of the day.
