Moving epic games file to steam?
I have RDR2 downloaded in Epic Games and is it possible to somehow copy the files into steam folder so that I can play RDR2 in my steam account(which has RDR2 purchased, of course) without having to redownload the whole 100GB+ files?

Thank you in advance.

If it was purchased from Epic you can only get the files from Epic.

You can run the game via Steam so can use Steam Overlay, that will still require Epics launcher to be loaded.

Library
+ Add a Game (Bottom left corner)
Add non steam game

im not sure, because when you download a game from steam all the files are first in the downloading folder and when the download is complete it goes in a other folder.

not sure if can work what you want.

Its doubtfull its 2 diffrent client and still game devs there are in controll on own files but even they have to follow the rules of Client.

and you can end up with more space waste then you move files among them , save game is a diffrtent matter , but just because it look like possible can end up with a nightmare. for unallocated files moved into other client. what if its 2 diffrent file system and the ways its store, its seen before even steam other games redownload a total final version. change the way things is made.

this is just not recommended ( save game transfer is a diffrent matter ) even Dead Monkey point it out in a diffrent way, and 100gb+ can be even worse then mixup. ( but as you point out same game same files. but even if valdate game is done it will fetch content and still dont know the other files if they are not from steam server and match the cache.

only game devs can actual reply on this, and yet they can make mistakes for what steam way and cache

and you will not have cache it then its moved, ( so NO not recommended )

You can move epic games to another drive by reading this article:

that's just moving the game to another disk/directory without changing the client. I don't think it is possible to do it by the way, the only and reasonable way right now is to remove and reinstall.

But i will give one way and you can try it. Start installing the game on Steam, wait a while and pause, quit Steam. Move the files to the directory created by Steam. Open Steam, go to library, right click, properties, local files, verify the integrity of game files.

That method may be able to save you from downloading the entire game.

I know this is a couple years old but I did it with killing floor 2, if you copy your files from epic and just slide them on over to the folder titled common under steam apps it will "rediscover" the files and validate them. It will probably still download some stuff that the other clients use but it will mostly just validate. If it is insistent on just downloading the game itself just pause and unpause and it will do its funky little thing. Hope this solves future problems and this reply is mostly to just help people searching for help in the future. Thank you for the question!

i wont even do that, you have no clue in how game devs did it vs steam you can end up with multi files and incrasee game size, and in top of that leftover files then uninstalled. noone go douwn and check for any left over folder or files anymore ( its not DOS age where Main folder get access every time you need to start the game. you dont see them anymore thats my point, but go ahead noone will stop you, but we other dont check and micro manager such anymore another problem many forget we are past such inspection or whatever we shall call it here, left overs ? ( untill you need to deal with it. ( and it dont make it better then we have 1gb wan lines so, so re-download seem to be the way. ) things have change over the many years, problem is noone talk about it, could also say we dont care , but now it sounds we are rude and that not what i ment by it.

its like we dont care , because redownload it is more the right way.
thats day we all have 10g or 100g , i doubt any bother with move files at all.

and steam also has enable lan transfer, so you might not even dl them anymore if other pc has it , things change thats my point here.

so technicasl copy and move also died, then lan network has game on other pc, sorry but if we dont explan this now then ppl do waste of time and never learn the new ways faster.

even windows update has it check optimize delivery under the section "check for updates" how you can fetch data even faster from netxt door neighbour or other unknown user.

and im sorry you point is noted , but as you see things change over the timeline here.

tecnicaly you could have a huge NAS server with them instal at a crappy pc, then you just fetch it from there to many pc. ( quite neat ) and reduce steam server DL to other user in top of that. ( almost a privat own Lan server with games if we can say things like that )

Given this thread is 3-ish years old, I can only guess people using a search engine came across this thread. I'll provide an answer for those looking.
These aren't definitive instructions, but I can make an educated guess that you can. It should work if you:
1. Cut/Copy your game install folder from Epic (Red Dead Redemption 2 in this case, may have a different folder name)
2. Go to the Steam folder you have games installed. Example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\
2. Paste into the "common folder"
3. Try to install the game. It should detect the files already there, then attempt to apply any relevant patches/patched files that aren't already there. If you haven't updated in a while this isn't something you can skip.
4. After that's done, it should work with steam from here on out.

If you have the space to test it, another method is to
1. tell it to install
2. stop the download
3. move the game's files (RDR2) files into the location that steam is placing it, then it should have the option or auto-magically verify
Can't guarantee this is the behavior that will occur, but it's worth a shot if the other method doesn't work. Then it will try to verify and update anything missing.

I feel I should ALSO add that this is all assuming they have the same files and file structure between installations. Hope this helps.

If I understand what you're saying correctly, the "Steam Local Network Game Transfers" https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/46BD-6BA8-B012-CE43 doesn't apply to an installed game from another non-steam client on the same machine. The only thing I can think of that may apply is "Restore Game Backup..." on the top left, but I don't think that'll work either. Either way, the instructions I laid out would be the best approach for downloading the least amount of redundant data.

No but you forget one thing, game devs is in controll over file stuckture and you have no clue if you can do that or ever confirm its same from one online client to other online client.

you can end up with more issue then you know. and what about the it patch, i ahve seen client version be diffrent from box to steam version even , its not that simple as you think.

game devs know what they have done, and i dont think they will explan such file stuckture is same or not, you just hope they are.

ps.
also you do thinsg game devs dont even think you did if somehow you ask for helper later and they cant fuigure out whats wrong. ( technicaly you dont have download Original content )

as i said go ahead we are not going to stop you here, but i tell you, you have no clue what you are doing if thing crash and burn you game later if somehow this is the cause, thast alot of waste hours in a corupted game, and what will you do that day a game do checksum check and security on game files in top of that, thats is the way things will be someday, and your version will be seen as tamper with files, and you are not allowed to do so, check steam rules,

so this post already is seen as in trouble by steam rules, way more then you know.
but sense this is own game files and whatvber game devs might dont care where you get it from, you just forgot steam has other rules.

and pay attension to i did not suggest it, thats all.

then you work with security you dont let user allow to change files, its that simple.
many forge such detail and think its your files its not , its game devs file you have only have right to play it, huge diffrence.

as i said go ahead and try pretty sure game devs dont care where you bougght and play them or move it, i just hope you dont get issue with it later.

ps.
you might not want to do it with online anti cheat games, what if they see tamper with files and you get game ban its not seen yet , but all you need is a wrong checksum or things dont add up , then you are in trouble. ( thinggs noone here can say not can happend )
dont forget some game devs have tool that check something, and tamper is tamper and trap is set, cant say i have seen such yet but could happend. )

we are not police here, we are users, but i bet you did not know steam terms and conditions or Eula , man its dry stuff i know, but its already there in steam rules.

You can share gamefiles between 2 launchers by establishing a symbiotic link between the 2 platforms.
