Help: How to turn off Inventory Notifications (Steam)
So I've been getting some inventory notifications during gameplay, which is pretty annoying considering it kinda ruins the immersion for some games..

I've looked around a bit but I can't seem to turn off the "you have a new item in your inventory" pop-ups... Plus for whatever reason in Big Screen mode while playing on a controller it stays up for at least 30 seconds.. especially annoying if the game I'm playing has HUD elements in that corner..

Anyway to turn them off? I've tried Please Do Not Disturb mode, and I checked the friends & chat notification settings..
Any help would be much appreciated. ^_^

In the library options of the game (through right-click) deactivate the Steam overlay for the game.
A different way would be to add the line
-steamos
(leave an empty space behind "Steam.exe") to your desktop shortcut.

This will turn off all notifications about chat messages, items, achievements and so on during games.

P.S.: In the latter case, you won't be able to take screenshots through F12 anymore.

You can't just turn off item notifications.

There really ought to be a way to turn off different categories of notifications separately though. Without turning off the entire overlay.

ehh I don't mind the achievements popping up.. But turning off the whole overlay?

What I'd like to know is how to get out of the inventory entirely so that for me it will effectively not exist with no notifications at any time, in or out of games. No interest in it.

Seriously! I've been wishing they'd let you turn off notifications for Item Inventory for years.

I've been looking for the offswitch for the notifications myself. So the only way to get rid of them is to DISABLE THE ENTIRE overlay? :steamfacepalm:

To me this just feels like a cheap way to spam users, even when you have Steam minimized. People have been asking for the option to disable these notifications for YEARS. As others have said, I wish I could just disable the entire inventory system. Purely an annoyance to me.

I turned off the overlay and it's still showing item notifications, so nope, that doesn't work.

And here I am in April of '23 hoping to find the same thing and just finding thread after thread on Steams own forums like this one where people have been asking for this for years...

Guess it's time to write another well thought out message to throw at their "support" wall so I can watch it bounce off of it and fall into the mountain of other logical requests pilled in the Valley of the Ignored...

This is in the current beta UI that released on April 27th and the notification settings had been added on May 19th...

If you do, click the notification envelope, click view all and look to the right and click Settings.
