Steam closes after login
During what seemed like a completely random night earlier, i tried opening Apex Legends and then found myself endlessly loading into the game

Game's anti cheat engine would run > would close > steam would re-log in > Repeat

At first i thought it was localized to just Apex Legends, but was surprised when i could no longer access my account. it would open the steam log in, id enter my credentials, and then i see a blip of the Steam browser loading my library, but before i see the actual list, or the "deal of hte day" in the steam store, it would close by itself. no warning, no error, just zilch.

Spent 3 hours poring through the help section here.
Tried "Sfc /scannow" on CMD
Tried comaptibility mode
Tried troublshooting for compatibility for Steam.exe
Disabled all non-windows services
Disabled some peripherals and unplugged USB devices if it was a driver issue
Ended up reinstalling steam (and didn't realize i'd have to redownload all my games)
Disabled my anti virus
didn't bother with the firewall, too often its never the case with me.

And was pretty annoyed for awhile, because the one thing that boggled me was the fact that booting into safe-mode with networking, allowed me to log in and actually stay in the steam window. and see my games, my list, my friends list

But i couldn't tell what was wrong, nothing changed, no new hardware, no new software installed.

found similar posts with the aforementioned solutions but they didn't work for me.

What annoyed me most was looking for keywords that could find this exact problem, since there are a lot of "Steam games not running? try these fixes" and I'm livid thinking out loud "I CANT EVEN OPEN STEAM SETTINGS"

so for future reference, here was my solution
Also kindly allow me to put in my, rather specific keywords on google, in hopes that someone else who types these in might just see my solution

Steam closes itself
Steam launches only in safe mode
steam updates then closes
Steam closing after log in
Steam wont stay open

The solution, comically:
was to head into my device manager, right click on my display adapter, then just uninstall it.

My 4 screens shrank to 1 and i had the FPS of a potato, but when i ran steam, lo and behold, it logged me in and actually stayed open.

I'm really just posting this here just in case someone else encounters the same problem, because this boggled the hell out of me. then again maybe AMD really is just bad at upgrading your current driver, and better to always just do a clean reinstall if you have problems

I also have the same problem, Steam comes in and immediately crashes, but this method did not help me, I've been trying all day, but it's useless

might need install "AMD driver" software like me, you can download the latest installer here: https://www.amd.com/en/support

I've the same problem and yes, it's really frustrating.
I too saw that in Safe mode with Networking the Steam Client would run but after normal boot.
I also updated my AMD GPU driver earlier in the day but after coming back several hours later in the evening, the Team Client does not work again and I'm back to square one. I don't understand why it would temporarily work.. and then not !?

Updated my drivers... Didn't work... So...

Is this something that's affecting AMD cards?
Nvidia bribed someone at Steam to screw over AMD?

No. People are having issues with Nvidia cards as well.
Why would Valve screw over their partner for the Steam Deck. Are you out of your mind?

Also having issues with an NVIDIA card, manages to log in and display the Steam Client GUI, then crashes

In any case. solved it for my side.

For AMD what you want to do when installing the update is to check the option that says "reset to factory" or something like that. It will then remove your old drivers and files and install fresh new one. So you probably want to try something similar with NVIDIA cards

Remember, you must uninstall your graphic driver completely, via uninstalling via safe mode (but i didnt really need to) from the devicemanager.

Then reinstall the latest available.

Hope the fix works for you guys! cause i had to reinstall 200gb worth of games after reinstalling steam as well :))

Having followed advice - uninstalling from device manager to the default driver fixed the issue.

However - Steam Client crashes once again when I download the latest NVIDIA driver after a computer restart - better to leave at default until a fix occurs
