PS4 controller registers in game as X-box controller

Hi, My PS4 controller is identified and configured as a PS4 controller in the steam controller settings but in any game I play the button prompts are all X-box ones which is really annoying. Any way to fix this?

It's depend on the game itself , some games just don't have the visuals to show playstation button inputs.

Devs need to include PS prompts with the game, some do. Prey 2017 is one example.

How do I do that? Never mind I figured it out and it still gives me Xbox prompts

if you want to change the setting for a single game it's right click , properties then controller ... you should have a list of controler and a box where you have forced on , default and forced off.

all I know is that I'm using an older playstation gamepad so I need to have the steam input forced on for certain games to even see the controller.

Because the input mapper is enabled and mapping PS gamepads to XInput because that's the most common API supported by games.
I suggest disabling it globally, enabling on a per-game basis as needed.

when I look on google for elden ring the result I get is that the game don't have Dual shock prompts and will always show Xbox buttons reguardless of your steam input setting.

what I get when I search ''do elden ring have Dualshock prompt'' are links to website talking about a user mod that would enable it in the game , Since this is a online multiplayer game I can't really recommend installing mods on it.

Dark Souls 1,2, 3 only had Xbox prompts.

Sekiro also only had Xbox prompts plus it also was tied to using Steam's input mapper.

This is almost exclusively tied to the games themselves, and not Steam. Because the most common API is xinput (eg xbox controller style), many will not bother to add prompts for other controller types.

Some games which allow mods, have mods that allow you to change the button prompts, but this isn't true for all moddable games either. Other than that, you're not likely to find a solution, other than just memorizing which PS buttons are associated with which xbox buttons.

This... The fact is it's not that hard to just add a menu toggle for prompts from xbox to PS.... Companies just don't care.... I don't want to have to mod, and then if i switch controllers feel the need to disable the mods. It's less about a need and more an aesthetic choice to match controller to prompts. But seriously, you don't need to accept any other APIs. Just give us the option to switch prompts

I can count the number of games with PS button prompts with one hand. Even PlayStation PC games use Xbox button prompts
